Dashboard Camera Recommendations?

Looking at getting a dash cam for my new fit, but I honestly don't know where to start and searching didn't pull up anything.

Most people are using GoPros these days or their phones

I have been wanting to get a camera too, but I live and park in a city. So I have to keep my car free of any visible items.

I would love to have a camera that I can mount in front of the rear mirror on the windshield and not have to plug anything in(battery powered). and just pop it off when I am out of the car....

I'm about to move into a city as well, but I'm parking in a controlled access garage and a controlled lot at work, so I'm not too worried.

I think I'm going to get one of the Chinese versions of it, as I can't really justify spending twice as much without even trying the cheap one first... Hooray for amazon's return policy.

I recently bought my A118-C and installed it as well! However, I did not hardwire it as it was very easy to run the wire along the trim, through the glove box and into the center armrest 12v plug. Takes great video (I have audio disabled due to CA laws) and it's very discrete. It's also easy to remove and hide away if I feel like I need to do so when street parking. I mounted it behind the rearview mirror.

would suggest the Mini 080x line of cameras. Small and compact to minimize being seen.

Dash cams need to be permanently mounted to be effective so you can set and forget it's there. Even just backing your car up into the next stall can lead to an incident where you would have benefited from the camera but didn't have it mounted because you though it was not worth the trouble.

dash cam selection

I have always used the cheap chinese version for about $15.00 on Ebay. I have a backup in case it dies. It does take a SD card to store video. I have mine set to automatically turn on when I crank up and turn off when I shutdown. If let memory fill up it goes back to the start of memory and overwrites old video. Mine is in AVI format. I set resolution to 640 by 480. I run with audio on so I can say plate number and have it recorded if video does not pick it up. I have been running for over 2 years on this unit with no problems. Here is a picture of unit in the Fit.

Wow, that's quite the contraption. Does it obstruct your view at all?

dash cam

Not bad on view. The screen is shown turned down for viewing. It folds up to unit and it is about the size and shape of a radar detector. The mount I had to modify a little as I dropped the unit and broke the original plastic mount. I have this bad boy on whenever I am on the road. I have gotten used to it and do not want to drive without it. It saves in 2 minute video files and I save the good stuff on my computer. On my old Escort I ran this one also. I have videos of birds hitting the car, animals running across road in front of me, wrecks, cars running stop lights at intersections, and other cars blowing engines while passing me on the interstate. Makes for good intertainment viewing. Of course if I am ever involved in a wreck I will have a video record. I paid $22.00 for mine but Ebay has them now for under $20.00 with free shipping.

I'm using this. It's very small and works great! full HD and night captures are very good.

How long would one of these record with a 32 GB card before erasing and starting over?
