It runs Doom!

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on my last thread about buying a 2015 model versus keeping my 2011 - unfortunately my partner managed to ram our car into the back of a jeep a couple of weeks ago, so I ended up replacing it with a 2015 anyway!

To make up for the stress, I gave myself a pet project - and here's the result

Calling it a "project" might be a bit much because I barely had to do anything - this is a Raspberry Pi 2 minicomputer, which fits nicely under the dashboard, hooked into the HDMI port and powered by the USB socket at the front. There's a ready-made emulation package for it called RetroPie, which you can put on an SD card and have it up and running near instantly. An ARM-based port of Doom is provided with it - I've also got some Megadrive and SNES games going on it.

As we commute together, this will be a nice addition for me hanging around the car park waiting for my wife to leave work

Wow that's awesome! I would have never thought to do that. I'm sure you can load up other games too, right?

Also, congrats on the car! How are you liking the 2015 car itself vs your 2011?

That's right - I have a couple of emulators on there, but still have to hook up the controller correctly for them

The 2015's been great so far! I've had the EX-L trim only a week or so, but I'm enjoying the added features it has like the keyless entry, cameras and vastly improved console/navigation - sometimes it feels like a subcompact car that hasn't been told it isn't a luxury car

Curious, have you tried installing an XBMC build on there? I'm interested in possibly having a few movies or tv episodes on there for long trips with nights spent in rest areas, I'd be interested to know your ideas on what to use as an input.
