Tire needs replacing at 3K miles?

I have had the same thing happen in my fit (I hit a pothole) rim was bent slightly and had a bubble...$ 513.00 for rim and $ 130.00 tire...honda would not cover it but I did purchase a tire.wheel warranty from dealer when I bought the car sooo glad I did they reimbursed me. that being said our tires are really low profile even for a small car expect more of these posts.
Well, here's the outcome.
The Honda dealer won't cover the tire, however a Firestone dealer looked at the tire and will replace it since it has zero thread wear at a cost of about $40 (balancing, labor, insurance, etc).... I guess that's not too bad.
As for the spare, I have the donut in, as well as a plug kit, a little air compressor, and in worst case scenario my insurance company covers the cost of tow, you can never be too safe.
As for the TPMS it should be no problem, but I'll let everyone know if anything. Thanks again.

Interesting. I was leaning towards replacing my damaged tire at the local Firestone dealer (TireRack didn't have the size). I should ask about possible consideration... the damaged Blizzak has very little tread wear, first season. This was on a Civic but I will use this experience to evaluate winter tire and brand for the Fit for next season (if I have a choice ;-)

My wife used to work at Michelin in Nova Scotia, Canada. She said bubble on wide wall is usually manufacturing defects. Delamination at the side wall causes the bubble.

Interesting additional information. From my photo, above, you may see that there is very little visible damage to the sidewall, other than the 'big' bubble. I need to visit my local Firestone store(s ?) to see what they say.

Finally got the Fit after a 4 month wait, and been enjoying it so I haven't been on much recently. 
My Fit came with the Bridgestones and after 3000 miles the front right has a huge bubble/bulge on the sidewall... the psi's have always been between 33 - 35psi. So I don't know what would have caused it, wondering if it could be all the potholes??? According to the tire warranty card they only replace the tire because of significant thread wear. Did I misread something?
Tire rack wants about $130 for the tire shipped.
Since the tires are relatively new should I just buy the 1 tire and use these till I can get a new better set? any suggestions?
If i just change the tire will I have to reset the TPMS sensors?

I agree with the Australian fellow. It has been a scam by the auto manufacturers to put in the donut. We should have a full spare. 
Just think of the money they have saved over so many years now, and so many cars. Full credit to Honda Australia for putting in the full spare...that is very smart.
I also drive a great deal in wild places out of any city sighting. New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado......those are places where getting a flat tire is a serious thing...and very often we are out of cell phone range for any help.
Just think of the money they have saved over so many years now, and so many cars. Full credit to Honda Australia for putting in the full spare...that is very smart.
