2011 Sport Fuel odor inside while parked

Title sums it up well - very strong fuel odor inside the cabin when car is parked. I have looked around and see no sign of a fuel leak on the ground, no noticable external smell either. I do not drive it that much in the winter and gas gauge seems pretty much stable.

Has anyone had this type of problem before? Or can suggest something to check before letting a mechanic have a field day?

Thanks!

I would try a new gas cap first.
They are cheap and might be the cause.

The first thing I would check is to see if your gas cap is in place?
Is there a check engine light showing on your dash? A misfire in your engine can lead to the smell of un-burnt gas in the car.
There have also been complaints by owners of Fts, that when the "spark plug loosening phenomenon" happens in their Fit engines, they can smell gas inside the car. Eventually, when the loosening gets bad enough, it will probably trigger a cel.
Last, but not least, the gas tank and sending unit sits under your car directly under the console.
You can find info on all of these topics using the search function on this forum and/ or read some of the posts at the bottom of this post under "related topics".
Good luck in your search.

Your symptom might be caused by the cold ambient temperature, but I would definitely check the plugs.
