Question 23mpg. Is it normal?

Hey!

It seems that my 2020 fit 5spd MT isn't running the right consumption. All stock. I bought it used. I mainly drive in the city and rarely on highways.
Haven't changed the oil yet and it ran more than 8k miles on it since the last change of oil. Tires are skidding on some corners and that's about it.
I'm driving eco if I say so myself. I don't overload either.

Will be changing:
Oil
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Tires (195/60/r15)
Spark plugs if burnt; after this but even so, I think the 23mpg is too low.
Also worth mentioning, my hood isn't fitted correctly and there could be an impact before I bought the car. No seller is honest and I just noticed after I drove back the car home.

What should I check and do? Thanks!

In a general sense, I would consider 23 mpg in the city to be low.
But... there are so many factors that can affect fuel efficiency that it is difficult to know for sure.
1) Engine - maybe it's not running correctly, maybe it needs basic maintenance (oil change, air filter change, spark plugs), maybe you have a bad sensor that is causing the engine to run poorly
2) Tires - tire pressure, alignment
3) YOU - driving style

I've never been to the Philippines, but have worked in China, Indonesia, and Thailand. I will just say that the overall driving style is what I would consider very, very spirited (and frightening to his country boy). That has an obvious negative effect on fuel efficiency. I don't want to assume anything about you, but if you tell me that your tires are skidding around corners that suggests that your overall driving style might not be eco-friendly.

What sort of fuel efficiency have you gotten in previous cars? How did that match up to expectations: better or worse? If you did worse than expected in other cars you'll probably do worse than expected in your Fit.

Different people also mean different things when they say city driving. If you live in a major city where your normal drive involves many stops and starts your efficiency will suffer, especially if your acceleration and braking are aggressive.

There are many other posts here about fuel efficiency, including tips for maximizing your efficiency. Check those out and see what you can implement in your daily driving.

If you conclude that you're doing the best you can with your driving style and still think the fuel efficiency is low, you should get the car fully checked out by a good mechanic. The mechanic can probably also tell you if the car was in an accident prior to you getting it, which could be playing a role in your fuel efficiency (e.g., poor alignment). Alternatively, a body shop will be able to tell very quickly if your car has been in a previous accident and repaired (or not).

Good luck.

There's your main issue.
Since this car is new to you, you have no actual evidence on when it was last changed. 8K miles is only a guess.
These engines are very hard on oil and running it on a longer change interval will not only cause increased fuel consumption, but also increased engine wear.

You should be doing all these things before posting here.

how many miles are on the car ? i changed the plugs on my '19 6 speed mt at around 33k , it fixed a finicky hesitation problem . 23 mpg is too low . 195 tires on "15 rims should
be 55 series ( 60s are too tall ) and you need to have the alignment checked as that can cause the squealing around turns .

That definitely sounds like a major problem. I do a lot of spirited driving and hard acceleration and I still average between 33 and 35 MPG. Haven't changed the plugs yet (91k atm, so will soon), oil is changed every 3-4k, 195 tires on 16" rims with pressure checked weekly.

Definitely check your alignment. You could also possibly have a stuck brake caliper or wheel cylinder (a collapsed brake hose can also do this). The added drag will absolutely hurt fuel economy. Take it for a spirited 15-20 minute drive and see if you smell something burning from any of the wheels. If you do, see if it feels hotter than the others.

My 1st generation 2008 manual transmission Fit gets around 31 mpg city in hot weather with the AC on, and 33 mpg in cooler weather with no AC. When I hit the hwy on a trip the AC seems to make so little difference that I cannot see a difference in mpg, it just gets about 43 or 44 mpg on the highway no matter what I do.
So while yours is much newer, 23 mpg still seems low for any fit of any generation.
