Alternator Failure, Bad Voltage regulator, 2013 Base second time in 2.5Mo
So my OEM 2013 original alternator died on my 2013 Base Fit back in June.
Took it to Honda dealership, they checked it out and said the voltage regulator had died.
Gen2 Fits don't have a separate module for voltage regulators and it's all one piece alternator.
They put a "new" alternator in, Napa Propower or something.
Here we are in Sept, and I'm driving and all of a sudden the same thing happens, battery light flickers a few times, then stays in constant.
Made it to an O'Reilly's and they load tested the battery and charging system, battery good, alternator good, but their system says the voltage regulator is kaput...
What on my car is killing voltage regulators on alternators? I did put higher power Sylvania gold halogens for headlights, but each time the battery light came in the headlights were off...
Is there a short somewhere?
Corrosion?
ELD dead? VTEC solenoid dead?
I would expect the Honda dealership to have figured that out but they might've just swapped the alternator without any deeper dive.
Any analysis would be appreciated.
Don't want to be stranded again. At least I was in a major town this time.
TLDR: The O'Reilly scanner says the alternator is fine but the voltage regulator is dead, same issue I had back in June 2023, 2.5 mo later with new alternator same issue.
