P0420 (and now) P219A in '16 Fit.
P0420 (and now) P219A in '16 Fit.
My Daughter (who was working overseas) has her car back. '16 EX, CVT trans, about 110k miles (almost all highway) on it. Japan made.
When I was driving it last year it threw the P0420 code (roughly September) once. Cleared it, never came back. No running issues at all.
She had it throw a code last month. Checked it, the P0420 was back. It cleared itself a while later, now back. Again, no driving issues. Had her throw a bottle of Cataclean through it to see if it would help.
Now it's coming on more frequently and throwing the P219A code also.
Unfortunately, I've got limited time to work on the car...I'm working out of town with no garage that I can use, and she's working further away from home...and both of us are only back home on some rare weekends (i.e...I basically only have an occasional Saturday to work on it).
Trying to make a plan to diagnose the problem, then order the parts, and get them in. I'm tending towards just getting the two O2 sensors (they're due) to start, but if it's a leaky injector, don't want to poison the new ones right away.
I know the code meanings...just trying to get some pointers on how to best diagnose the source, and if necessary get the proper parts on hand.....leaky injector, pre- and/or post- cat O2 sensor, and finally Cat Converter.
(Also what aftermarket parts will work well. I don't have a BMW E30 anymore, but have an E46 i keep running, and when I'm repairing it, I'll research who the OEM maker for parts was and get them at a substantial savings over buying from the Dealer).
*****I was looking up stuff and see a recall/service bulletin on some other Honda models in that era for the same codes (including the extended warranty), not sure if there is one for the Fit?
I guess I'm looking for info based on the Bold above.
Thanks!!

I have a 2015 (Mexico), 105k miles. I've had no problems with the engine or codes. It just recently passed Calif smog, no problem. I got a letter from Honda a couple of years ago about an extended warranty on injectors, 10 years or 150k miles for 2015 and 2016, so mine will expire in October. It's probably for certain cars in those years so I don't know if yours applies, but you may at least want to look up or find out from Honda if your VIN falls under this warranty before messing with it.
I did find the Tech Bulletin on the car(s). This is Japanese made, so the VIN is: JHM.....GS0000**. Looks like that TSB was for some Japanese cars but the last part is GX000001 through GX0***** So I don't think it's involved (although might be worth her taking it to a dealer out where she's working to confirm it).
I called her today after work. (Night shift). Recommended she go to a dealer and see if it's covered by the extended warrantee (and if necessary, pay a diagnostic fee). If it's not covered, I'll probably work on getting the parts together and doing it one weekend when she's home.
