Sold my Fit ;)

Meant to do this just after buying a new car. But I was delayed by:

Cold weather
A crafty mouse
Foot injury

..and now it's May and I have finally got around to it. It's a little nerve wracking because I know I would never find one in better condition. Subconsciously I wanted to keep it. But then, it was old and rattly enough, especially the brakes, that I wasn't feeling super safe vs the modern cars. It will make someone else very happy, since cosmetically there aren't many 12 year old Fits that look cleaner.

I'll still be kicking around for a bit.

Everything comes to an end. What is your new car?

As much as I love the Fit, sometimes when I'm driving and noticing how little attention other drivers are paying to the road it occurs to me that almost every other vehicle weighs 2x - 4x as much as mine, and many of their bumpers are sitting at the same level as my head...

In isolation the Fit is pretty safe, but if you get in an accident with almost any other vehicle in 2024 you're bringing a knife to a machine gun fight.

But, I'm also cheap, stubborn, and I don't like following the crowd (to SUVs and trucks) so the Fit still works for me.

In my daily highway commute to work you don't often see many small subcompacts like the Fit

Thanks Drew! Yeah. Cars have gotten a lot more solidly built. Keep in mind, this car was not only sold here before the front offset crash tests. It was also sold in Japan for two years before it even replaced then GD here. So we're looking at a car with powertrain and crash structure designed in, probably, 2005 or 06 or something - almost twenty years ago. The amount of extra steel on the sides of a newer car, especially my Subaru, is really beefy vs the Fit. I probably should have replaced it years ago for safety. It wasn't until it piled up some deferred maintenance like valves, and THEN stranded my wife twice for other reasons, that I said okay I either need to put $1-2k of pro work into this, or replace it. The brakes are especially frustrating - I did get them replaced pads and rotors only a few k miles ago, but they became mushy again, suggesting some kind of problem to track down.

I probably can't say I'm replacing it, not sure what could do that. But taking its place in the driveway is a new Civic hatchback. 2.0L K series, naturally aspirated, CVT, BOOST BLUE. My wife wanted that color, only. I strongly prefer the K at this point, having experienced K and L. It is too big and hard to park, not as good for "town car" use as the Fit. But it's very fancy.

Since this is all about me, I'll just throw out there this is the version of the GE I always wanted to have: the Fit Shuttle, for Japan market.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Fit_Shuttle
It had an extra long cargo area so it was a true wagon - and extra sound insulation to make it more comfortable on the highway.
I felt like this would be the perfect combo.
