If you had a $1000 Budget??????
If you had a $1000 Budget??????
Blaze Orange Sport AT; known as the "MATCHBOX". Here is the thing, I have had my Fit since June of 06, and until this past weekend I had never thought about power upgrades for the car, but than I made the drive from San Diego to Las Vegas and back. I had to get in the slow lanes with the trucks on the high grades, and it was unnerving to my wife watching the speedometer go backwards and hearing the engine revving in the 4500rpm range and still not making much headway. She actually told me get some power, but don't kill the gas mileage. (I love my wife!) The question of course is, what can I upgrade on the car in my budget (1K), to help it the most???? Sorry for the long intro. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You.
E/i/h????
Intake, Exhaust, What does the H stand for? As far as the tire change, I have read some posts where people are saving 30-40lbs of weight with a switch. I would like to get some power first and from there work on weight savings, and supension. Right now if I let the fire fade from our road trip, she will forget she authorized the expenditure...... I have already owned a 03 350Z and a 05 GTO, I got rid of the first because of kids, and the other was a gas crunch victim.... This is now the weekend driver and the daily for at least a couple of years.... Thank you though.

Honestly, you are not going to get the super power to make people stare or to make you feel like you are in a wicked car unless you do an engine swap and some sort of forced induction...
to me, I only spent $400 for suspension upgrades because for local Miami driving, it is enough power as I am always in traffic...I just want the fun in the turns.
Trust me, I am not dogging the car in anyway but it isn't a quick car. The grand spent on the intake header and exhaust will be just fine and you should see some noticable differences.
Don't believe the hype that an intake will give you 10hp though...That is most likely to the crank and all 3 items should yield a good 10-12hp to the wheels.
Good luck and have your wife talk to mine...I wouldn't mind her giving me the go ahead for an engine swap and forced induction.

if I had a grand for stuff for FIT
I'd go with a un-expensive coilover kit. I didn't buy the Fit to go fast so that would be the best bet since handling is more important then driving fast in a straight line.
i would check out Bulletproof Automotive i know they have a few packages that have exhaust, intake and other items they also have many products besides that, just click on honda fit in the left hand menu.
To be honest with you, if you're thinking about modifying...specifically the engine, don't go cheap. Buy quality products, period. As for your problem, I wouldn't touch your car with a $1000 budget. Best to leave it alone because 1) you won't get much for $1k and 2) you'll be wasting $1k.

The Fit's airbox is very restrictive, mostly for fuel efficency and noise control. Replace it w/ a good intake like a T1R or Power Box and you will not only improve the throttle response and drivability of the engine, but also open it up so that it can better use what power it has under more stressful conditions, like climbing hills, etc. You may take a small hit in MPG, but it'll be offset by not having the engine bog nearly as much when under a heavy load or hard acceleration.
A good exhaust works wonders as well, assuming it's well designed and free-flowing. The intakes above will give you better mid-range power and response than stock, and somewhat better power in the high revs, but a good exhaust will really free up the upper end, especially near 5500-6k, although there's gains lower as well.
Just these two mods together will make a noticeable difference in the way you car feels, and you can buy both and have cash to spare if you shop around carefully and pick good products. I also recommend using premium gas as well -- not because it has more power (it doesn't) or will give you better mileage (it won't), but because under certain conditions (towing, hills, etc.) it resists knock/ping better when the engine's stressed and lets it make full power just like it would normally if not being stressed [Shell Canada Gas FAQ]. Headers will definitely help you too, like others have said, but really good one's will eat up most of your budget from the get go, so better to wait. You may even want to check into voltage stabilizers like the ones from T1R, Sun auto, etc. People who have them are reporting better mileage in general and also an improved low-end, which also would help you on hills. They're cheap too.
Yeah, your car's not a 350Z or GTO, and you can't expect it to ever reach that level of power, but that doesn't mean you're wasting your money trying to improve what you have and make it better.
Me too (though I do about buying quality parts). I honestly don't understand the mentality, "It only has 109hp, there's no point in modding it and spending the money."

For me, the performance gains from $1000 worth of engine accessories isn't enough to make it attractive. A $3500 JR supercharger would no doubt transform the car, but $1000 worth of bolt ons? Not so much. Feel free to feel differently.
BTW, what's this nonsense about "negative" comments?

lol, i cant believe some of you neglect the tires for best bang per buck. Its pretty much a night and day difference, more than any intake/header/exhaust combo. Comes with benefits for all aspects of the car.
