The brake lamp stays on after I step on the brake. It is a 90 Accord. I
have checked old postings. I have checked all the bulbs. Some suggest a
greyish sensor or a module. All I can find is a greyish connector very
close to the bulbs on both sides. I have traced the wires to the rear
back seat but can not find the 'module'. Can anyone help me with that?
Very much appreciated. The red light is there all the time, very
annoying. Thanks.

How about checking your brake fluid level?

If your brake fluid is low you may want to get it checked out with your
local shop.

or all 4 brakes could be worn, causing the pistons to be pushed further, thus
theres more fluid in the lines and less in the resevoir. Good to check for
leaks, but he could still be a ways from having to do his brakes. Then again
it really depends on driving style.

This is not the brake warning light he's talking about. It is the "brake
lamp" light which typically indicates a problem with one or more brake
lights. The brakes themselves are fine.

These magnetic reed switch are picky with bulbs. Check the bulb for
the correct type. If they're not the correct type any slight wear on the
filaments will set off the warning light. I assume the word "brake lamp"
is lighting up and staying on.

First, if all your brake lights at the rear of the car are working
normally, then the module is fine.

If this is the "brake light out" warning light on the dash that's on, then
you should check the center high-mount brake light. Everybody forgets that
one.

If all your bulbs are in fact working, then you've likely got corrosion on
one or more sockets that is increasing resistance such that the control
unit *thinks* a bulb is burned out, even though it's not. Remove all the
bulbs to check for rust.

totally forgot about that. That happened on the GFs 87 prelude, but my 98
does not have the feature that warns you when a brake lamp is out. Wonder
why?

My guess is that it tended to not work properly. The brake lamp light in my
'93 Accord sometimes lights up in cool, damp weather after it has not been
driven for many hours. Perhaps condensation is the culprit.

 

Wow, so many people responding to my questions, thank you very much.
All the lights are working. It's only the brake lamp light stays on all
the time! This happened before about 2 years ago, corrosion on the bulb
and the socket. I cleaned it and was fine till now. I took the bulbs
out ( except the centre one), measure the resistance, they seemed very
close in value.
