2nd gear worries
2nd gear worries
just got an '08 fit lx manual, started w/ 9km now @ 500km. car is perfect, except... if I am in second and going a very mild speed 30-40km/hr and apply and release gas (gently) I can feel the stick 'click' in and out of position (not enough to come out of gear). If I stay in 2nd and cruise along at 35-40km/hr there is a funny clatter feeling also. All the other gears are solid and leave the stick feeling planted in place. I have waited a long time to get a new Honda and this is irritating. Any ideas?
You talking about the slight vibration when resting your hand on the shifter? If so this is normal. Try not to rest your hand on the shifter that much. Its not good for the syncros.
^^ +1 you should only touch your shifter when you actually need to
shift.
the shifter will move based on the load of the drivetrain, but not enough
to pop out of the gates on its own.

Thanks for the response!...I don't rest my hand on shifter, it's more of a delicate hold with the finger tips just trying to feel. I know normal vibration but this feels wrong. Also if I just look at shifter I can see it moving back and forth (when applying and releasing throttle). No other gears have this play. I also own a 2000 accent w/ 170,000km also manual and the stick has no movement at all even under load of full acceleration.
