painting the fog lights housing

I am thinking to paint the fog light housings to flat black tomorrow.

When painting the fog lights housing, do I need to remove the front bumper?

do you sand the housing before painting it?

Thanks!

I did this like 2 months ago it was real easy. If you look in your instruction book it will tell you how take off ONLY the fog light covers there is a little screw on the inner area near the radiator. Sand the covers with something light like 800 grit sand paper and use Krylon Camoflauge black paint to paint it. I't at school right now but ill post pics when i get home.

oh btw, the search box is your friend , here is a thread on how to remove the fog light covers.

I just took my foglights out yesterday to put the lamin-x on. It's real easy just take out the screw that connects from the lower grill area towards the foglight housing and the whole housing will slide out. after that there are two screws that hold the foglight in the foglight housing. I'll find the link to the instructions real quick hope this helps...

^^ hey no fair!! Thats the page I tried o link to. I guess i just suck at linking lol.

To paint my fog light covers I used Krylon Flat black camoflauge paint. It was kinda hard to find but I found it at my local Pep Boys, I dont know if those exist in indiana though... I cant really remember but I sanded the covers first with either 800 or 600 grit sandpaper, just enough to rough it up so the paint will stick. After I put about 4 coats of paint on each cover and let them dry for 3-4 hours. It's easy to do and it makes the car look a lot better.

hahaha.... you dont have to remove the bumper. There is 1 screw that holds the housing on the bumper. You unscrew that, unplug the harness, remove the screw on the back of the housing and that frees the housing from the lens. Then sand, just enough to scuff the paint so the paint adheres to it correctly. Then primer, then black.... Clear if you choose. I did 2 primer coats and about 5 black coats and no clear.

Hey chris, I never noticed that you have the EDM front end on your fit. Did you just put it on or was it always like that? I like it way more than the USDM bumper. *thumbs up*
