New 5-door hatchback priced in mid-teens;
goes on sale across Canada on April 3
TORONTO, March 17 /CNW/ - Honda's new 2007 Honda Fit 5-door hatchback
will launch in Canada starting at $14,980. The Fit goes on sale in Canada on
April 3, entering Canada's growing small car market with class-leading feature
content, refinement, interior functionality, sporty driving character and the
highest levels of standard safety equipment for a vehicle of its size and
price.
New to the Honda lineup and introduced to meet the needs of first-time
new car buyers and those looking for a smaller, affordable car with
flexibility for transporting passengers and a wide range of cargo, the new
Honda Fit 5-door hatchback provides an ideal fit, as it is designed to be both
fun and functional to appeal to Canadians.
"We are bringing the five-door Honda Fit hatchback to Canada because of
the popularity here of hatchbacks and the desire for excellent fuel
efficiency," said Jim Miller, executive vice president of Honda Canada Inc.
"We are confident that Canadians will embrace Fit because of its overall
value, full complement of standard safety items that includes side curtain
airbags, unique convenience features and fun-to-drive personality. The Honda
Fit is ideally suited to 'fit your life' and fit the people and things in your
life because of its large interior and flexible seating configurations."
In Canada, Fit will be offered in three trim levels with a base DX model,
LX and Sport. Some of the key Honda Fit attributes include a full complement
of standard safety features such as anti-lock braking (ABS) and both front
side and side curtain airbags; excellent fuel efficiency; versatility with a
variety of seat configurations for passenger and cargo requirements; overall
fun-to-drive character; and stylish design.
The Fit features a 109-horsepower, 1.5-litre engine with a 5-speed manual
transmission or an available, first-in-segment 5-speed automatic transmission.
The estimated 7.3 L/100km city / 5.8 L/100km highway mileage (manual
transmission) is among the best fuel economy ratings for conventional gasoline
engines in the small car market.
Inside Fit is a surprisingly large passenger and cargo space for both
maximum comfort and utility. At the foundation is Fit's Magic Seat(TM), an
innovative 60/40 split rear seat that allows the seatbacks to fold down or the
seat bottoms to flip up, providing four distinct seating and cargo carrying
configurations (refresh mode, tall object mode, long object mode and utility
mode).
Fit comes with standard amenities such as a 160-watt AM/FM/CD audio
system, power windows and a two-tone interior. The Fit Sport model features
wheel-mounted paddle shifters (with the automatic transmission option), and
includes an underbody kit, rear roofline spoiler, fog lights, security system
with keyless remote entry, cruise control, 200-watt AM/FM/CD audio system with
5-mode equalizer, leather-wrapped steering wheel and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Trying to figure out what US MSRP will be from performing currency conversions is never accurate. For example, the S2000 sells for $50K Canadian, which converts to about $43K US. US MSRP is really $34K.
Just be patient, American Honda Motors will make an announcement about price soon.

I think honda Canada has priced themselves out of ALOT of sales for the Fit Sport! Our Civic LX is $20,380 ONLY A $900 CAD DIFFERENCE! WTF are they thinking ? I'm now going to be spending the extra $900 for a Civic LX, a car with much more substance!
I've been awaiting CDN Pricing myself and I was horrified to convert from USD. They must be very careful though, cause it is close to a class upgrade of other models which we can get more car for the money elsewhere too. Mazda 3 is not looking so bad now.
But in Honda traditional fashion. Build it and they will buy. Maybe a major fuel hike is on the way which would justify this price to pay for a vehicle like this.

I'm surprised that some of you are actually shocked at the price of the Fit Sport.
How much does a fully loaded Civic cost you? How much would the base / mid-range Accord cost? Same scenario....manufacturers price their vehicles accordingly.
The fully loaded Yaris is a bit cheaper than the Sport Fit (around $500) but it also is in the price range of a Corolla ($15,715 - $24,445).

I am not a expert on the car pricing schemes of Toyot or Honda, however in the Canadian market this price for the Fit Sport overlaps the Civic DX, Civc DX-G and is close the the Civic LX. The Civic SI (top model) is over just the base Accord (SE), and the next level Accord (DX-G) is more than the Civic SI. Whereas the Fit costs more that the bottom two civics (DX/DXG). Thats all I am saying.
Did you guys expect Honda Canada to give them away? They priced it competitively to the Yaris RS, it's direct competition.
For those of you mentioning the upgrade to the Civic LX for 900$, you are comparing apples and oranges. Try getting a BBQ into a Civic.
I was expecting the Fit Sport to be in that range. I'm still interested in getting one.

If you think aboiut it, the base model price is not bad. Look at what the base model offers: side airbags, good looking interior, and some others that are better than older civics. In addition, 13k is not a lot. Yaris (ugly ugly) is 10k, and nissan versa is 12k. Fit is better than either, so it's not surprising it's only 1k more.
As of 3/19/06, the conversion rate of CAD to USD
1 Canadian Dollar = 0.86316 US Dollar
1 US Dollar (USD) = 1.15854 Canadian Dollar (CAD)
It hasn't been 1.2 since August 23rd of last year.
So... a Fit Sport Auto at $20,780CAD = $18,052USD
I hope there's a pretty decent difference between the converted MSRP, and the true US MSRP.

Canadian v. American MSRP
I did the conversion and I'm concerned, too, about what the U.S. MSRP will be. Local dealers estimated the Sport at right around $15 K. Several months back the base price was guesstimated at between $12 - $13K.
