Hey I think everyone needs to stop do the conversion crap and just wait till the US prices are released... I mean the value of the dollar goes up and down all the time. So how the hell do you expcet to really have a strong case posting what the prices will be. This is just as bad as all the threads on this site for gas milage....

They'll be selling for invoice, for sure....

The Sport is too expensive in Canadian Dollars - C $20,780 - Fit Sport (automatic) - WAY TOO MUCH.

Everyone keeps on saying that the Fit costs too much.

Just exactly how much do you think it should cost then?

Yaris 5dr HB RS with B Package is almost the equivalent of the Fit Sport.
Auto = $19,895
Manual = $18,895

How much should the Fit sport be?

Since the Fit is made in Japan, it seems to make more sense to compare Canadian Dollars against the Japanese Yen, and U.S. Dollar against the Yen, then figure the percent difference between CD and USD. Latest info as of today, 3/19, is CD 86% of USD. Multiply the Canadian MSRP of $20,780 for the Sport automatic (highest price) by .8623 and you come up with about $17,919. The lowest price, for the Base model, MT, of $14,980 Canadian MSRP, and U.S. price is $12,918. Then add tax, tags, all those dealer tack-ons, and you're probably up around $14,500 for the cheapest Fit.

Reasonably? Fit Sport - Automatic - MAXIMUM 18k. Its a damn econobox. I'll take the Civic LX over the Fit. 21k for a fully loaded eco-box is too much. End of Story.

You must be joking. A loaded Yaris list for more than 18K, a loaded Aveo5/Wave5/Swift+ list for more 18K. As if Honda would add more safety features and list it for less.

So many people need to wake up and realise what Honda is offering in the Fit. It's doing very well in the other markets without being the cheapest, and I won't be surprised if that continues in North America.

Any idiot with half a brain would know that you cannot estimate pricing based on converting foreign currency.

So, how about comparing similarly-priced cars from the same manufacturer?

Civic sedan DX: US $14760, Canada $16980. Fit Base/LX, according to the US press release, under $14000, i.e. at least US$760 below the Civic. So in Canada we expect perhaps CA$880 below the Civic DX, and get... what? $200 OVER. Looks like we're getting screwed by $1000 here.

Yes, but that's not the point. The point is comparing two similarly priced (CA$17K) Hondas between countries.

And it's something to bring up in negotiation: "In the US this car lists for $880 less than that Civic -- so here's $16000."

Sure you can bring that up if you want to get laughed at. Different country, different market conditions.

Compare all you want, it won't do you any good. Like Mav said, different country, different market conditions.

Some Americans might whine that they aren't getting a base Fit model. The Fit LX has way more standard options than the Civic DX.

Why compare things that aren't the same?

Of course market conditions are different. Honda's sales projections are about five times higher per capita in Canada than the US.

"Not getting laughed at" is not high on my list of priorities when I walk into the dealer. Neither is taking food from the mouths of the salesman's starving children. I'm pretty heartless that way.

Well, everyone can stop guessing, because they've finally released the US MSRP numbers!

Well it's starting to look like there will not be a Fit in my future when the lease on my 2002 Civic SiR runs out in May. It is pretty much along the prices of a Yaris up here but I was hoping it would be cheaper since I'm poor. Looks like it will be a used car for me come the end of May.

Now does anyone know what features are different for each level? Do they all have A/C? Remote Entry? ABS?

Another link for those interested: http://autonet.ca/Spotlight/NewModel...9/1385780.html

Thanks for the link, and for those lazy people:
----------
DX:
-109-hp, 1.5-litre VTEC engine
-Available 5-speed Automatic Transmission
-Electric Power Steering
-Seating for five
-Standard front, side, and side curtain airbags
-Standard Anti-Lock Braking System
-Power Windows
-Fold-flat seating
-60/40 split folding rear Magic Seat
-160-watt, 2-speaker AM/FM/CD audio with auxiliary media jack

LX adds:
-Power door locks
-Power mirrors
-Air conditioning
-160-watt, 4-speaker AM/FM/CD audio with auxiliary media jack

Sport model adds:
-Available steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters (AT only)
-Fig lights
-200-watt, 6-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system with MP3/WMA capability
-Cruise control
-Body coloured skirt kit
-Rear roofline spoiler
-15" alloy wheels
-Security system
-Keyless entry
-Leather wrapped steering wheel
----------
So it looks like it will be no Fit for me. I will look at used Honda's given my budget. I can't believe there's almost a $5000 difference between the DX and Sport.

There's a bigger price difference between the Civic, Accord and Odyssey.

In Canada…

The Odyssey top model is 30% more than the base model.
The Accord sedan top model (excluding the hybrid) is 48% more than the base model. But there’s also a more powerful motor.
The Accord coupe top model (excluding the hybrid) is 32% more than the base model. But there’s also a more powerful motor.
The Civic sedan top model (excluding the hybrid) is 38% more than the base model.
The Civic coupe top model (excluding the hybrid) is 51% more than the base model. But there’s also a more powerful motor.

So the Fit top model being 39% more than the base model fits into the way Honda prices most of the other vehicles with different trim levels offered in Canada. The profit margin is usually higher on the higher trim levels too, so more room to bargain.

That made me laugh in a weird way. Honda Dealerships and room to bargain seems like a oxymoron. They have the reputation, the cult following and customers lined-up right behind you literally to take what's offered to them. I may have to enlist some 3rd party help and negotiate from an internet pre-priced format or go in and purchase on the cold, snowy, miserable, month-end, year end day. Maybe a good deal for me is awaiting Dec.24th or Dec 31st.
