But are you getting the most value for your money or just blinded by the looks of a small car ? Yes, you are right. I don’t understand. Anyways, the FYI on the Accord was just a comparison to help members gain a perspective on how much they paying for a car made by the same car manufacturer.

Too much.

Now I'll wait to see what Hyundai offers for pricing on the Accent 3-door hatchback soon to be released, but at this point, I'm leaning away from buying a Fit.
Don't come back saying look at what you get for $16k, if you think that is a good deal, you're sadly disillusioned, and playing right into their hands.

The Accord is a very nice car, but useless for what I expect from a car. The Fit will also have better gas mileage.

I know there's been discussion regarding whether or not a US citizen could go up to Canada to get the Fit DX, but what about a Canadian coming down to the US to pick up a cheaper LX/Base? Would it be cheaper for them?
Maybe we can negotiate a trade ... say cheaper prescription drugs for a cheaper car?

Sure it it’s cheaper, but you get less for your money. Also, used Hyundai Accents resale value is horrible in my area. Depends on what you think is more important, more features and better resale value, or initial price.

You get what you pay for.......sometimes!
"Shouldn't be long before some Canadians start complaining.... I sure feel like it."
If one were to convert the official U.S. pricing into CAD funds using today's exchange rate found at Yahoo's site, then we arrive at:
base manual: 1.1624 x $13850 US = $16,099 CAD
base auto: 1.1624 x $14650 US = $17029 CAD
Sport manual: 1.1624 x $15170 US = $17634 CAD
Sport auto: 1.1624 x $15970 US = $18563 CAD
Now, unless I'm completely out to lunch, it seems to me that the base model is by far the better deal when purchasing in Canada; coming in at $14980 CAD & $16180 CAD for manual/auto respectively. Where Honda Canada puts the screws to the consumer is when taking into account the price differential between the US & Canadian Sport models. There is a HUGE difference between $15170 US vs. $19480 CAD & $15970 vs. $20680 CAD for the manual/auto models respectively.
Furthermore, there is NO excuse (aside from pure unadulterated price gouging) for the LX model's $2000 CAD price differential from the base model, even if you throw in the additional equipment such as a/c, power mirrors & door locks. The Sport model's pricing comes close to being rightfully classified as highway robbery.
Honda Canada is probably betting that the average hatch-loving Canadian consumer is willing to pay premium prices for a b-segment "premium" Honda. Time will ultimately tell whether this will prove to be true.

kps, I stand corrected. So Honda Canada couldn't shove the overpriced (remember the $25K entry fee?) Civic hatchback down our throats a few years back, so now they're taking another stab at it by gouging on the Fit. I hope their marketing mavens all burn in you know where!
I think there is yet one more variable in this equation. The US is not known for being very small car friendly. Therefore, US consumers need additional "incentives" to get the ball rolling. A lower price has been proven to move the bigger iron, so why not the smaller iron as well? My 2 cents.

April 15?
April 15 is a Saturday. (I know because my birthday is the 14th and I wanted this car for my present to myself) Would Honda normally make a new model available on a Saturday. I would think they would be swapped. Works fine for me - I want my car ASAP.

On the Canadian price thread a few days ago I wrote: "My guess is the Fit Sport with Auto will be closer to $16,000."
I was off by $30. And with taxes, the $550 destination charge and licensing, it will be as I predicted: USD$18,000.
