Aftermarket or other way to reduce road noise?

Are there any methods to reduce road noise in the 09 Fit? Aftermarket or dealer add ons--anything at all? Or is road noise something only the manufacturer can reduce through vehicle design?

A few members have reported excellent results after installing dynomat under the carpet throughout the vehicle (the largest improvement seemed to come from the hatchback area), and also rubber undercoating in certain areas under the vehicle (largest improvement from wheel wells). Other products used include SecondSkin, Damplifier, B-Quiet, RAAMmat or eDead from edesignaudio.com, rattlepad, some of which is used for improving the sound from door speakers, but these also help reduce other noise.

Here are some outside links on sound deading:

Here are some threads which may help, the first is awesome and kind of shows what you'll be getting yourself into if you choose to do this on your own. I have heard it can easily take few days to get this done:

You can get a can of 3M's rubberised undercarriage spray and spray the undercarriage cum wheel archs. It helps a bit.

Tire choice is key, though with the stock Bridgestones or Dunlops I think it's pretty darn quiet as is.

Exclamation My thoughts . . .

I agree with others who recommend the dynamat/edead products. I'm investigating these myself.

My experience with my GD3 Fit was that a lot of the road noise was because of the sh!tty stock tires. When I switched to a Michelin MXV4, the difference was stunning. I did not do any additional sound-deadening on the car, but that would have helped.

I expect that a lot of the problem on our GE8's is the tires too.

For the GE8, I'm looking at doing both, but edead will be my next project.

Is any of this stuff dealer installable? Do dealers have any packages they can install (like as an accessory) when you buy the car?

Putting some of this stuff in looks complicated.

why doesn't Honda use the dampening stuff on their cars when they make them? Is it solely a cost things--Honda doesn't add it because it would raise the price of the car? or are there other reasons as well?

exactly + a hundred pounds of sound deadening does hurt MPG and engine power to some degree.

However with that said the like 8 year newer design of the GE8 I think has paid off in noticeable improvements in NVH (noise vibration and harshness?) due to clever engineering versus added on weight.

I'm almost certain I will at least lay some extreme dynomat the spare tire well area, and possibly behind the door panels...it's just so time consuming, labor intensive, and expensive. Then again I'm picky about road noise and enjoy upgrading my car's sound system, so it's something I see as worth it.

Yep, it's usually one of the first things mentioned in most reviews, and one of the (many) reasons why I made myself wait for the 09.

Engine noise maybe not but I love the sound of the new motor.
Road and wind noise is an improvement!

Tagged as well. I can't wait till the weather gets warmer, I got a long list.....

I also noticed the car is a little noisy at hwy speeds, I'm probably gonna try out the wheel well, and spare tire area first and then see... tires should help too.

I think Im going to order some of the Raammat and maybe some ensolite. I'll probably only do the hatch area to begin with... perhaps one day I will throw some on the door skins and around the speakers. I'll probably also do the undercoating of the wheelwells.

Has adding dynamat or any of those things to the truck area or more places resulted in reduced mileage or a change in the car's driving performance? Seems like there should be a change due to the weight addition.
