What's everyone's opinion as to the best tire in the rain? Maxxim Fourteen wheels (+45) and probably 205/40/17.

Would I have any rubbing issues? Also, I'm going to add Progress springs and rear bar.

I would recommend the Kumho Ecsta ASX. We sell those for $60 per tire.

 

That tire may be priced low but it is low in quality. Try the BFG KDW NT, Michelin Exalto PE2, or even The BFG Gforce Sport alot better quality tires......

 

UGH. this tire is one of the WORST tires ever when it comes to the wet! (reveiws to prove it as well.)

granted the other suggestions are good, but were named just because they are better brands.


as far as hydroplanning resistance and outright grip in the wet, a good tire is the bridgestone potenza RE760. summer tire, but its assymetric and not unidirectional so its not super loud.

however the BEST wet handling (and affordable) tire review i ever read (and inspired me to get them) was on the tire rack with regards to the Goodyear Eagle GT. they out gripped and outlapped every other high perfromance all season tire in that test, and even equalled and out gripped some more expensive summer tires.

i have put these tires through some terrible downpours (most of my commute is freeway) and i can attest to the results of that review.

 

I don't know about the best wet handling, but I've heard many good reviews on the Falken Ziex ZE-912.

 

these are decent tires if you like a quiet ride. but it only stays that way for about the first 12k.

aside from that, they are fairly unremarkable.

 

im running the fuzion ZRi's with Uni-T and they grip very well in the wet. (fuzion is by bridgestone).

 

Go to Tirerack.com...some good reviews. I purchased General Altimax for a Toyota..excellent rain tire.

 

i've got the Goodyear Eagle GT, they are insanely good for handling in the rain. i have 195s on my car and if you were to look at the tread on the tire they would look more like 205s. i love the design on the sidewalls, they look like summer tires even though they are all season. the sidewalls are pretty thick. there is at least a good 1/4" of rubber from the lip of the rim to prevent curb rash. the treadwear rating is also pretty good.



my gripe however is that the sidewalls are pretty soft. so i loose a lot of feeling taking sharp turns. it's pretty sloppy. so i most likely won't get these again.

at least my the ride is a little better since the car is lowered

 

I'm no fan of all-season tires, so from my experience i'll throw the Yokohama S.Drive into the mix. I LOVED the first set i put on my Fit, and made the mistake of switching to dunflop dz101s to cut costs. The S.Drives were predictable, sharp turn in, smooth breakaway, GREAT dry traction, and wet traction was INCREDIBLE for a summer tire. It had no problem evacuating standing water, and the difference in lateral grip between wet/dry conditions was minimal. I replaced them after 27k mi because they were starting to get noisy (only problem out of em, 25k miles in), although about 10-15% tread left before the wear bars. The tread pattern isn't half bad either
They even balanced out easily without excessive road force variation (10lbs or below),

From now on, lesson learned. The only rubber that will be mounted to my Fit will be the Yoko S.Drives as long as they make em
