Hey I was little bored today so I decided to do this and took pics...

I know this is pretty basic but some people could probably use the info...

First you want to sand with 220....Dont be lazy sand it and get all the corners
After you do that wipe it down with Lacquer Thiner or equivalent. Be careful with this stuff it wont eat your paint but allot of plastics especially clear plastics dont like this stuff. Dont touch it after its wiped



Then take sheets of paper and slide them behind the H
Dont touch the H




Spray light coats I used a wrought iron black as it matches the grayish plastic better than flat black.
Note: Towel on hood and extra paper on bumper to prevent overspray



Let it dry... Flat black drys fast as does the paint I used but give it at least ten minutes.
Remove paper carefully



I plan on doing the rear emblem as well but Ill be using gloss black to match the plastic/paint.

This took about 20 minutes mostly sanding...

Thanks, Yah I was poking it and realized it was just clipped from behind not glued like most. It was so quick I was kinda disappointed and still bored

 

Clear it. It will definitely chip.

Yah it would help but it would have to be flat clear and no-one sells that around here. Otherwise it will come out gloss black with the clear...

No worries though it was so quick, touching it up is not an issue

 

Well many city and Highway miles since I painted it and still no chips. Only been 3 days but put about 1000 miles on in three days lol.

Ill update if it chips...

 

I have a milano red Fit as well. I was thinking about painting my emblem the same red color since I have the red touch up paint for the Fit. Anybody think this would look good?

 

Here is a better source for OEM color paints, either touch up or spray can use. The directions for touch up painting section at the top of the page has a good write up on prep and painting. And they offer clear to protect your newly painted surface.

To be honest Ive been searching for pictures of exactly that but I cant find any...
I might pick up some red and try it but if I dont like it, it will be messy getting it off...

 

Its been 3 years now some light dings but still looking good no repaint needed.

Moral here, sand, clean and apply light coats.

Would Plastidipping the parts be more durable?

I wouldnt charge for something so easy but Im too busy now to do it, dont have time for my own ride currently.

Plastidip might be better but never used it so cant say. I know it does say peels of easily so might not but it might be more resistant to chips too. Try it and let us know, its easy enough with this method.

 

I had started by spraying mine with paint, but had
lots of chips. I Plasti-dip'ed it about 3 months ago and it still looks great! No problems with it peeling off.

 

wow that's pretty lame of someone to bogart your work.

been in this forum for years now but i never seen this thread until now. i am amazed that yours isn't chipped after all this time. i think i abused mine during manual car washes...it chipped badly after a year.

 

It has several "dings" from rocks but they indent into the plastic itself, but yah no chipping or flaking.
Even the dings still show black not the plastic chrome underneath.
I beleive its due to the thorough sanding process and several light coats, Im usually very impatient so it gets one heavy coat but I did it right this time.
It also could be the type of paint to as it was wrought iron black so maybe its more durable.

I just painted and aluminum air damn used two coats self etching primer and two coats flat black and it chipped in some places the first day

 

+rep! I have been pondering how to remove these to paint without damage for a while now. This is brilliant! I know the project I am finnaly getting to tonight.
