To Help You People Out On Oil and Filters
Ok I changed my oil yesterday and this is what I know to be fact not i think it takes this one etc. Fram filter number is PH-7317 Amsoil filter number is EA0-13. Im an Amsoil guy and an oil freak by nature so I went with the Amsoil filter. The new EAO filters are top notch very impressed with the specs and construction. I decided after much research to go with Amsoil 5W-30 instead of the 5W-20 honda is calling for. The pour point visosity index and 4 ball wear test numbers are much better for the 5W-30 than the 5W-20. The 5W-20 is a function of gas mileage and CAFE requirements as well as the Islac4 requirements. The 5w-30 Amsoil exceeds all these requirements. Im not trying to talk anybody into using anything its your car do what you wish with it however ive been getting a lot of questions about the filter and oil and thought i would do a post. My concern isnt miniscule gas mileage gains i keep my cars well over 200 and sometimes 300 thousand miles my concern is protection period. Hope this helps.

yes the reason being for the 5w-30 is the viscosity index and the 4 ball wear test numbers are both much better than the 0w-30. And in reguards to the earleir post about the warantee period that is a falsehood entirely. It is totally illegal to base a warantee period based on what oil you use its called the magnasum moss act. Dont use a particular oil because you think its a warantee issue. In addition the Fit has a really nice cast aluminum oil pan a very nice touch on an economy car so i would advice the use of a torque wrench when you reinstall the drain plug.

Vehicle manufacturers recommend lubricants according to their viscosity grade and service classification. Any oil, whether it's conventional petroleum motor oil or synthetic, meeting the correct viscosity grade, 5W-30 for example, and the current API SL and ILSAC GF-3 North American service classifications may be used without affecting warranty coverage. AMSOIL motor oils are recommended for use in applications requiring these specifications.

I understand that they cannot recommend an oil viscosity to keep your warranty. They can only recommend a service grade. Any oil that meets the service grade will keep the warranty good. Can they recommend a service interval? If you don't change the oil at the required interval and keep receipts like the owners manual says can they void the warranty then? I think that they probably can. I don't know for sure. It just seems to make sense. That would be a reason to use a cheaper oil and change at shorter intervals. I wouldn't want to void my warranty from running Amsoil 25,000 miles between changes.
Yes and I may have mispoken in reguards to the viscosity grade aspect of it however i will continue to use the 5W-30 as the engine is not going to blow up anyway unless you do something very stupid. The liklyhood of an engine failure before 36000 miles is slim to none. Im a very ****ytical person that cant spell as you can tell however i mix this decision based on using amsoil since the mid 80S and in fact my 93 lx civic that this car will replace if the thing ever dies has used 10W-30 its entire life. It calls for 5W-30 in the manual. By the way it has 284,000 miles does not burn a drop of oil and has never needed one single repair under warantee nor did my 84 CRX which i sold with 310,000 miles on it. Honda wants you number 1 to bring the car to them for oil changes and because of CAFE requirements they will put 5w-20 in it. I just cant bring myself to use it given the specs on amsoil mobil 1 castrol etc are so much lower than the 10w-30. I plan on keeping this car for 10 years plus just like the civic which i still have and honda is worried about 36000 miles im thinking 300000 miles. That all being said despite being an Amsoil dealer unless you plan on keeping the car for a very long time the extra expence is not worth it.

The Amsoil dealer I get mine from told me that the XL series of amsoils are just about as good as the Amsoil extended life oils. They save a few cents a quart and I know that using Amsoil XL5W-20 or even XL5W-30 or XL10W-30 would still be better than some other choices I could make. If I change at the maint. minder interval it wouldn't be much of a compromise and it would keep my warranty good.
Your Amsoil Dealer is clueless number 1 if he thinks they are comparable but i dont want to start an oil thread from hell, use what you want to use its your car not mine. I only posted cause i was getting private messages from people about oil and filters because your an amsoil dealer does not mean you have studied oil like i have. Anyone with 35 bucks can be an Amsoil dealer dosent mean you know squat about oil. OK yes i dont have a life so i have nothing better to do however i do know oil and for the people that do have a life and dont have a clue about oil asked me so i posted this thread. And for the record ive been an amsoil dealer for many years only because i go through a lot of oil i have 2 motorcycles and 4 cars and i have not made a dime selling it. I only sell to my family and friends cause im not a salesman im an engineer and i sell it to them at wholesale. I dont have a hidden agenda im telling you what i know and thats it end of story for what its worth. In addition if you knew me im legendary in how i take care of mechanical things I actually wax my lawnmower I know im a sick man. I was a hard core mobil one guy i mean really hard core but im a scientific man by nature and if one oil in a lab not somebody that used this oil and drove his car this many miles kinda story i mean real data tells me something is superior with imperical data i take notice. Okietom your are correct most any oil will do well im just very **** do what you feel is best for your car the 5W-20 XL amsoil is good stuff better than dino oil for sure if you plan on keeping the car a long time otherwise use whatever dino oil is onsale.
