Valve Clearence And Timbelt Breakage

It is my understanding that the Fit has a timing chain. Thats good if true but what are your comments? Does the honda fit 1.5 vtech have noninterference valves so when the timing belt/chain goes off the valve do not smash? I cant wait to get a Honda service manual.

To my knowledge (I've had Honda's for 29 continuous years now!!) all Honda engines are "interference" engines - meaning that if you loose the timing chain/belt, you're going to smack some valves with the pistons.

On a positive note, the chain will make noise when it develops slack, where the belt doesn't. Belt just snaps, and chain just makes noise (at first.)

I'd rather have the chain!!!

This is just my 2nd Honda to have a chain.

I thought a belt would be good for performence and less noise. I am suprised how noisy the car was when it had 4 miles on it but now it has 2500 miles with much less engine noise. thanks for the coment.
I owned a 82 civic 1.5 litter (300000miles) that never broke a belt and the car had non inerference valves

My car was so quiet that I accidentally tried to start the car again while the engine was running at the dealership. Felt bad. Had 5 miles on the odo.

I guess I have an ear for it. Mostly it was heard outside the car. Ive never seen oil so clean wow. I hope that I never develope sludge on the oil cap like is seen on many cars.
