Does the cargo cover work well even when it's not screwed in to the back seats?

 

Yes, though the snaps are easy to install by yourself. That said, if you are planning to never install them, you should consider trimming the flap off. The snaps do rattle when not snapped.

 

I actually took off the flappy part - there are pins that pop off, so you don't need to cut or tear anything. And if you recline your seat back, there is only about 1/2 inch gap between the edge of the cover and the seatback. (The flap has been re-installed for the sale).

My reason for not installing the snaps was I didn't want them to snap off if I slid something up to the end of the cargo area - they're kind of in the way if you have the seats down. Just my 2 cents!
