Brand new Fit owner with Spec question

Just filled up my new Fit for the first time and found out some curious details. I topped up the tank in preparation for a gas mileage check and the car took 10.852 gallons. The low gas light had been on for about 8 miles. The spec says the tank takes 10.6 and the low gas light come on with 1.64 gals. Assuming Honda is considering a "full tank" as only what's in the tank either that long run to the tank location holds a lot of gas they are being pessimistic on their specs. For you guys that like to stretch your gas stops how accurate have you found your gas gauge. Thanks and glad to be a fellow Fit owner!

I never really did any calcs but I can tell you I've gone exactly 50 miles to empty affter the low fuel light came on.

I do not top off when filling up because I leave room for the fuel to expand plus the evap system on the pumps can cause issues.I realize you should not run the tank on fuems because of the cooling of the fuel pump by the fuel.

I usually fill up before the light comes on but I know the range for my car if I'm in a pinch. It seems like all the specs are estimations because numbers are all over the place as far as how much fuel you can get into these cars.

Sounds like your 50 mi. figure agrees with Honda's 1.62 gallons. I like to have a good idea of range-I got sent out into Nevada once on the way back south from Lake Tahoe due to a avalanche road closure on 395. Hundred and fifty miles of cactus and was running on fumes when we got back on route. Thanks for the info!

Long fill tube

The Fit’s gas tank is under the driver’s seat while the fuel fill opening is on the back of the vehicle. There is a long tube to connect the tank to where the gas is filled. As stated in the manual “When the tank is full, the fuel nozzle will
click off automatically. This leaves space in the fuel tank in case the fuel expands with a change in the temperature. DO NOT continue to add fuel after the nozzle has automatically stopped. Additional fuel can exceed the full tank capacity.” Filling more gas than the capacity of the fuel tank is possible but not recommended & is being held in the long tube.

Absolutely a good idea not to overfill your tank on a hot day when you are not going to drive off and burn off the excess. I avoid topping off my tank in those situations.

OP, here's an older thread that might interest you: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/eco-...ust-miles.html
How accurate? Don't know, I don't push my luck with the gas gauge/light to see how far I can go. I go by the trip meter and look at both meter and gauge. Others here claim to have put bet. 11-13 gal.

Also, OP is assuming the pump is accurate.
