Gas tank details

It's my feeling that the Fit gas tank (USD) is
10.8 gal total. In addition, when you are within 1.7 gal of 0 fuel, the E light comes on.

The Owners manual pp 62 says:
LOW FUEL INDICATOR

"When the indicator comes on, there is about 1.7 US gal of fuel remaining in the tank before the needle reaches E"

That is a tad confusing all by itself. It goes on to say:

"There is a small reserve of fuel remaining in the tank when the needle does reach E"
so is that 1 cup or 1 gal??? lol

In the back it says the tank capacity is 10.8 GAL

The most I have pumped and I do not top it off was 10.3 gal and that was 40 miles past the E light and that was a 42mpg tank
I have filled up just after the E light and measured 9.6 gal
My needle is just touching the "E" when the light comes on

So without speculating has anyone one one dry (like it eng stops) and filled it up?

idk but I fill up right when the gas light comes on and I usually put 9 gallons or less. So if the tank is 10.8 all together and the light comes within 1.7 gallons of being empty than it sounds like the reserve is only a 10th of a gallon or so.

Not sure if this helps, but I posted in the Eco Fit forum, I recently went just over 50 miles with the low fuel light on.

Did you notice WHAT the fuel gauge was pointed at when the E light came on and after the 50 miles?
What was the mpg on that tank?

thanks

BTW 1.7 gal at my current avg of 44mpgish is 75 miles

Surprising with all the fits owners nobody knows the answer. I'll figure it out and share that details one way or the other including run mine dry one time

I filled up yesterday not long after my fuel light came on. Drove to a gas station and pumped 9.2 gallons, which is when it clicked. Same pump, same gas station as the week before (shell station).

All I can say is, I've been getting consistant 4.8-5 gallon fill ups from the half way point with costco gas. I'm starting to think different pumps give different numbers, but I gotta test that out at another gas station. Most I've ever pumped with the gas light on so far was 8.7 gallons. I got about 280 miles off that. I also suspect that the air pressure can affect the gas pump reading. I've noticed that Shell's pump doesn't activate until a certain amount of pressure is applied to the pump.

BTW If anyone has looked at the size of the tube that feeds the tank from the filler neck (yea you have to get under your car) you sill see right away there is now way it can hold the GAL + of fuel claimed.
It's like a 1" OD pipe and maybe 6' long. Doing some math that's 56 cubic-inches or less than 1/4 gal. Go look

Also if you think pumps can't be way off on the calibration you are wrong. The dead give away is if you pump more than 10.8 like 12 and I saw one at 13 and also get POS eco like in the 20's.....I'm 99% sure you are getting the hose job from that station

Take a 1 gal marked container and see what you get when the pump reads 1 gal.

I started this new thread because the old one is loaded with mis and conflicting information
