HondaCare: Coverage Question

I recently purchased a used 2009 Honda Fit with 95k miles. It has a 100k HondaCare warranty on it that I am transferring. At time of purchase the independent mechanic I took it to stated the serpentine belt and tensioner needed to be replaced. The seller paid so I gave little thought to possible warranty coverage/issues.

Fast forward 1,000 miles and I have a sound originating from the engine. *Summarized on my other post*. I think it is related to the replaced belt/tensioner. My question is, will HondaCare cover anything if the noise is found to be related? What if it is not related? Did I just void the warranty?

I can take the car back to the original mechanic but, if the warranty is still good, I don't want to have even more work done outside of the dealership.

is that a factory piece? if so honda might still help you.

if it is an aftermarket part, then no. you will need to go back to your mechanic.

The extra warranty probably doesn't need to come into play. If an OE Honda replacement part was installed, it's warranted separately for failure. If it was the independent mechanic's fault, you'd have to take it up with him.

the car has over 95K miles... does honda's standard warranty cover cars with 95K miles?

No. But genuine Honda parts should have a warranty, I don't know how long they are warranted, maybe a year.

They should be warrantied for 12k or a year. You should take it back to the original mechanic, or you could just take it to honda and play dumb.....but really it should go back to the guy who did the work. First thing is first however you need to be sure it is the same problem.

Taken from American Honda's website: "Replacement Parts Limited Warranty—Honda Genuine Parts are covered for 1 year. The warranty coverage for replacement parts purchased from and installed by a Honda dealer includes parts replacement and labor."
