PRM Intake and Readiness Codes

I noticed that several months after putting in the PRM Jet intake my cel lights flashes 5 times after twenty seconds when the key is in position II.

This indicates the readiness codes arent set and could be a problem since I need to get the car inspected by the end of the year.

Is this really an issue? if so how can I resolve it? I have an ultraguage always plugged in the OBD so I removed it for two separate drives and nothing. changed.

Could not having these set be a long term problem? could it have nothing to do with the intake?

Do you know which monitors are/aren't ready? Have you hooked up a scan tool yet?

I'm guessing you're in New Jersey. It sure wouldn't pass in Union City CA even if the CEL wasn't complaining (the CAI isn't CARB legal I'd guess).

Here's the FAQ on Jersey inspections.

If it's like here, they just query the OBDII for codes, and only visually check that the catalytic converter hasn't been removed. Take it in early, if it fails, yank off the intake and retry after driving a couple hundred miles with the stock box.

I have an ultraguage, but there arent any DTC stored or pending...

I dont have any other diagnostic tool, but was considering ordering the Honda HDS from ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/OBD-Tuning-HDS-Cable-OBD2-Diagnostic-Cable-for-Honda-/190801021973?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item2c6ca08c15&vxp=mtr)

Would this be worth it or should I take it to Honda? My concern is that the Service team wont be as diligent as I'd like them to be. This is based on the fuel smell in my engine bay ever since the recall that they couldnt find nor would Honda customer care assist me with resolving.

Still have the smell and its probably fuel injector o rings or the filter, no visible leaks anywhere.....but my fuel trims are usually higher than average (until I fill up, then its ok for 80 miles).

Going back to the readiness codes, I am in NJ, and appreciate the time you've taken to advise.

That kind of sounds like an EVAP problem and if it's the EVAP monitor that isn't ready then i'm pretty sure there's your problem. EVAP monitor not ready won't show a problem with that system (fuel smell) or throw any codes.

Could have absolutely nothing to do with the intake.

If there are no codes stored, and the CEL light doesn't remain on, you should be OK. The emissions station just reads generic OBDII codes and nothing exclusive to Hondas.

That link you posted is just a cable and drivers (maybe). It doesn't come with Honda's Diagnostic System (HDS) software. The other items on ebay that do include software look a little iffy. I was under the impression that the HDS software was very expensive (thousands).

Edit, it's $1500 for a one year license from Honda ($10 a day!). Dunno what the Chinese are selling on fleabay but it may be a waste of $100. Here is the link to Honda's site.
