Congrats

The white ones are hard to get. I'm jealous.
Did you have to put a down payment? My local dealers are trying to get me a down payment but I'll take my chances. Sooner or later one will be available I figure. Wanting EX-L in white.

I won't do a deposit either. It commits you to a dealer and then there is no incentive for them to get the car you want if they have you on a deposit leash. I've seen too many stories of people putting down deposits and having the car they want show up at another dealer!

This, this x1000 is so true.

I wish someone had said that to me 5 weeks ago but now I am tied to a dealer who seems unable to perform a dealer trade for the color/trim I want and over the past 5 weeks I have found them available at dealerships within a 3 hour drive.

The GSM I am working with even said himself he may have to refund my deposit because the other dealerships are not playing ball with him for dealer trades.

If I could give one piece of advice to anyone looking for a new 2015 Fit it would be to NOT put down a deposit unless the car is exactly the trim/color you want.

If you are looking use cars.com AND all the dealership websites around you (because the two don't always match) and check it every day and once you see one that matches call the dealer and do an over the phone deposit. If I would have done this I could have had my pick of 4 different cars within the past 4 weeks.

The Fit is so popular and in demand, dealers have no reason to do a trade/swap, unless they each have a model that the other can use. Even this scenario is getting hard to do since it seems most Fits are sold even before they hit the lot, regardless of the color/trim. I would get your deposit back and start searching for what you want, by calling your dealer list daily. Ours just happened to come in on a truck the day we called, so we drove 2 hrs to get it that night. By the time we arrived, all the other Fits that also came in on that same truck were sold, as well.

I had a deposit in with a local dealer for 4 weeks before I found the car at a farther dealer. The lot I found it on said it was there for three weeks, the whole time the dealer with my deposit was claiming he couldn't find it. They refunded my deposit no questions asked, but tried to convince me that the other dealer didn't "really have that car" and that I should stick with them.

24 hours later I was driving my new Fit...

Anyway, AWESOME car man. You're probably already loving it. I am on the Blox site now looking to order a shift knob and I'm wondering if you could tell me the thread size? Also, how do you attach the little silver collar to the bottom of these knobs? They look flat.

yeah dude, the car is pretty awesome.

blox is the 10x1.5 pitch thread. you don't need to use the bolt it comes with the straighten the shift pattern on the knob, it twists in pretty well and straight.

the knob is day and night... compared to that light flimsy thing. When I knew i was gonna get the car in 6MT, I immediately bought a knob. I've had the knob two months before even owning the car haha.

the silver collar is part of the shift boot to OEM shifter. There is two hook tabs that hold it together. When you twist it off, you separate the knob and boot. Surprisingly the silver collar and boot springs upwards, to close the gap between the shift knob, its still loose as it doesn't hook in, but all is good.

Congrats on the new car! I almost went with WOP too, but ended up with PBP. Only had 2 days with it, but I'm happy.

I can't echo this enough. I put down a deposit more than 2 months ago, and got yanked around repeatedly. I suspect cars were being sold right out from under my nose, too, but have no proof. The color and trim I wanted ended up at other dealerships in the area, and since I was tied to my dealer, I missed them all.

In the end, I had to settle on the PBP when what I REALLY wanted was Aegean Blue (so much so that I went out and bought nail polish in a similar color so that I could match my beautiful car!) because the car just never showed up. To add insult to injury, the dealer refunded my deposit without even asking me claiming that "someone" called in to request that it be refunded last week??! I'm guessing that happened so that if my car ever did come in, they could sell it to someone else with the excuse of no longer having my deposit.

AVOID DEPOSITS AT ALL COSTS. I ended up getting my car because another dealer called to let us know what arrived on their lot that morning, and they were willing to hold it until we got in that evening. This whole "put down a deposit, but we'll only hold your car for 48 hours once it arrives" racket is a scam.

I had the opposite experience. I put a deposit down and my salesperson worked like a dog to get me exactly what I wanted. And that was at the end of June.

What did he actually do to "work like a dog"? I'm having a hard time visualizing that.

Knowing salesmen, I suspect that a more likely story was that he got lucky and the car you wanted happened to fall into his lap.

The story that got me was the one where a dealer blatantly offered to sell a car to a FF member for which the dealer was already holding a deposit! They used the fact that another person had put a deposit on it as an incentive to buy it right away! Luckily, the member had the ethical backbone to walk away.

The problem with deposits is that it doesn't put the dealer under any obligation at all. If they sell a car out from under you ("oops, we made a mistake") what are you going to do, sue them? Suing a dealer who has their lawyers on speed-dial won't get you anything but poor.

A better approach would be to tell multiple dealers that as soon as they have the car you want you will be there to write a check. Keep bugging them and eventually a car will pop up for you, but keep the money in your own pocket.

You could very well be right. I'm pretty wet behind the ears, not having owned a car for 35 years, nor purchased one for 40.

But he had exactly what I wanted when I absolutely needed it. He could have never told me the red one came in, and (if he can be believed) there was a clamor for it. But he switched me from the silver one that was my second choice. I would have paid the same either way.

Anyway, I love my Fit, and I'm arming myself with knowledge for when service time comes.

A deposit is fine as long as it is linked to a VIN. If not I wouldn't touch it.
