Hood Damper on CF hood?
Hood Damper on CF hood?
Im looking into getting hood dampers for my new CF hood but the ones that i have seen on ebay as well as the ones from password jdm and NRG say you can't use them on cf. does anyone know why and is there any company that makes a cf friendly hood damper?
I have a T1R damper (just one) for my GD. It says nothing about using it or not on carbon fiber hoods here: Type One Racing :: Engine :: Fit/Jazz (GD3/4) :: T1R Engine Hood Damper - Honda Fit 07-08 GD3. I have seen other members (previc93 for one) who has a carbon fiber hood and a damper but I don't know which brand damper they are using. I think the "Don't use this with a carbon fiber hood" warning is for some sort of liability in that it "might" be possible to bend the hood if you're not careful when shutting the hood. Kind of like the FlashPro is for "Off-road use only" just as HID conversions, etc.

Good, I guess. Yes. Yes.
The bottom portion of the damper attaches to a bolt on the headlamp assembly (it makes sense if you look at the aforementioned link). I had a problem with the tube (the black part, not the silver part) hitting my fuse box. To rectify this I sourced a longer bolt from who-knows-where of 10+ years of Hondas that I've tinkered with and some washers to raise the bolt platform so that the angles would work such that the tube didn't hit the fuse box anymore. The damper also comes with another hinge for the hood. I was able to install everything myself with little inconvenience. I would give it a 3 out of 5. All you need is some metric sockets, a wrench, and about an hour or so. Probably less, and everything bolts right up. I've had it for about 2 years (give or take) and I have not had any problems with it. It stays up by itself, so no need for a clip or a lock or something to make sure it stays open.

thanks ill probably order one this week!
Glad I could help. There should be a few other hood damper threads hanging around if you want to check those out for any more information before you make your purchase. No matter which damper you go with I'm sure you'll like it. I found random reasons to look under the hood just so I could open it and use the damper. I'm easily amused amd like the sound it makes when it opens.

thanks again for all your help.
oh snap so i was about to order this from AJ racing but they want 40 bucks for shipping BOOOOO! anyways i just realized do you think this will still work with the password JDM battery relocation kit?or will that get in the way? does it mostly just hover over the fuse box or is it kind of in between the two? Also what exactly does the engine pay side of the damper mount to?
thanks again for all your help.

They better be buying you dinner for $40 in shipping! I hate outrageous shipping charges because it really only costs $10 to ship yet you get charged for $40. I don't know anything about and have never seen the battery relocation kit, so I can't say if it will interfere with it or not. My guess is that it will not interfere or cause any problems. The damper tube hovers over the fuse box and does not go over the battery. The pictures in the link are a great example of what it looks like. I don't know what you mean by your last question.
also the last question.... what in the engine bay ( not the side that mounts to the hood) is the damper mounted to? the headlight? the frame?
Both, kind of. It uses an existing bolt from the top part (the part closest to the windshield) of the headlight. The damper base also slides into part of the frame to keep it from twisting left/right. It's kind of hard to explain, but the picture depicts it and you'll figure it out when you get the damper.

Measure the distance from the bolt hole I talked about and the next hole in the frame of the inside of the fender as you go towards the windshield. If the distance is a smidge over 4in then it will work.
