2012 Fit LX without Navigation - Can I play music via Bluetooth?

I just bought a 2012 Fit LX without navigation. I was surprised to discover that google maps directions from my Bluetooth paired iPhone played through the car speakers. I thought the Bluetooth Handsfreelink was only good for phone calls. This has me wondering if it is possible to play music via Bluetooth...is it? If so, how? Simply playing music on the phone does not make it play through the speakers. Are there any other apps or phone functions that can be directed through the car speakers or microphone?

Also, I hope to drive this car for 10 years. Will it be possible to update the firmware so that Bluetooth works with the phones I will own throughout the next 10 years provided they are iOS or Android based?

Does the LX have the USB input? I have a Sport (2010), without bluetooth. I play music from my iPhone through the USB input. It also routes in-call audio and GPS navigation audio through the car stereo.

No the LX does not have the USB port, unfortunately. It seems that the AUX input is my only option for playing music from my iPod through the car stereo. It looks like I can add the USB port myself for around $100, which I may consider. I'm just wondering if there is a way to play music via Bluetooth. It seems strange that Honda would develop the Bluetooth for phone and navigation, but leave out music streaming.

I have a 2013 Sport that did not come with Bluetooth. I bought this for phone calls and it works great. I can also play music through it...I don't know if it matters, but I have an Android phone.

Just noticed you are in Canada, and this is labeled USA SPEC. Again, not sure if it matters....

I've got a 2012 Base Fit and my radio has the USB in the top glove box. I would think you have the same USB connector if you have a 2012 LX. If you want to keep your car for 10 years and keep the radio current, I recommend www.crutchfield.com. I also have a 2005 Nissan Altima that came with a plain jane radio with just a CD player - that were nice in the 90's. I've upgraded my radio 3 times and just got a great Pioneer unit that streams music through Bluetooth and I love it! ($150) It also allows you to hit a button on the unit and use Siri. Besides hands free calling, music streaming, you can also have it read and create/send text messages hands free. I am mildly handy and was nervous the first time I replaced the radio, but now it's easy. I looked and they make a kit for the Fit. With the changes in smartphones coming so fast, you almost need to plan radio upgrades every so often to keep up.
