Googlemaps voice prompts stop working in car

I set directions on my Samsung S5 before getting in the car, and the vocal guidance is non-stop before we even move. I start the car and she shuts up no matter what I try to do. Is it the Bluetooth synch to the car that causes the spoken instructions to stop? How do I fix that?

At least the cup holder to my left is easy to look at in the absence of the spoken instructions.

(I ask that here because it never happened in my rentals from other automakers.)

The voice prompts should be playing from your car speakers, providing you are on the Bluetooth audio input (aux). If you want to just use Bluetooth for phone calls and not music/navigation, just uncheck "media audio" under Bluetooth settings on your phone.

Thanks for the response. The voice prompts aren't playing through the car speakers, which I would like them to do. Could have something to do with the fact I have the audio off?

Yes, by default the Bluetooth will hijack the audio and phone connection so you have to turn audio to Bluetooth input to get voice prompts.

Pls go on the Google maps/nav forum and ask for an application option to always send Nav audio through the phone speaker. Waze has it.

Thank you. I got it to work today through the speakers! It was so easy, like everything else on this car. And I'm borderline Luddite.

I think when it comes to the belief of Luddism, you either are or you are not a luddite. I'm not certain you can be a "Luddite Light", but I could be wrong.

See, I'm not even good at being a Luddite!

Don't worry, I won't turn you in to the Luddite central command. They are still working off index cards, so it will be a while before you come up for a compliance review.

I made sure audio is on and Bluetooth selected. It was right in front of me on the audio menu.
