It takes 2 or 3 tries sometimes to get the starter to engage. Other times it starts on the 1st try. I checked the battery water and it's full. Next I'll find the master key and try that.

Could be starter?
Test for voltage at the solenoid small wire, if battery voltage is present but the starter does not engage, it's not the ignition switch.

battery water? Isn;t supposed the battery to be sealed so no maintaince be needed? go to autozone they should be able to check your battery for free. Did your fit got a recall for ignition coil?

I don't have a VOM here at the moment.

What I did over the past 18 hrs is

1) Trickle charge the battery to full. It starts 4 out of 5 times or so on the 1st try. 1 out of 5 times i have to rotate the key back and forward again to start the engine.

2) Using an old minivan with the engine running, I connected jumper cables the Fit, with the same 4 out 5 starts as 1) above.

So now I am really confused, because if it was a bad battery, then why would jumping still not start 1/5 times? But until I charged the Fit battery to FULL, it would crank 1 out of 7 or 8 times. Dang!!!!!!!!

In any case I'm keeping the jumper cables in the Fit as I go about by daily duties.

If the connections in the ignition switch are dirty, more current may help, but that switch is likely dying or the relay is. Hondas are not known for great ignition switches, especially if you have heavy keys.

Does the starter only go *click* on that attempt?

Got your voltmeter yet? Or a test light might suffice.

I don't have a VOM here, I'll have to borrow one tomorrow.

Yes, it clicks each time it does not crank.

Sounds to me like it needs a starter.

Really? Damn. The Fit is only 16 months old. I had a job at a repair garage doing basic car repairs before as a teenager growing up in the inner city. I hope Fit starters are easy to swap out.

Test, don't guess.

IMO it's not horribly difficult to replace if need be.
Not as easy as an old small block Chevy, but not horrible.

Remove the coolant reservoir ..... unbolt the wire harness holder and disconnect enough wires to move it to gain some room.

Another Starter System IPush Button)

2015 EX 6N doesn't always start at the touch of the button. No noise, no click, just red letters in the upper left corner ... "Starter System" ... one (actually several) No Crap, Sherlock moments. No click, no groan from a dead battery. Clutch to the floor, foot on the brake, press button for 15 seconds like the book says. Go through that cycle several times and eventually it starts.

Dealer techs say they cannot replicate the problem and therefore cannot solve it.

Any suggestions. Less than 2,000 miles on it.

Did they check all systems for fault codes? (step #1 in troubleshooting)

Try a different dealer?
Call Hondas customer assistance?

Don't be so certain about that. Last Honda I owned the ignition went out around 150K miles. My mechanic replaced it, but thought it should not have failed. I wrote a letter to American Honda and gave the details, including a copy of the bill. They wrote back, said it should not have failed and reimbursed me for the full cost.

That's distrurbing. It always started on the 1st try up to around a month ago. With 68K miles today (not 71K as I posted originally) I'm ahead of most 2015 Honda Fit CVT LX owners. Will others experience the same symptoms as I do now? I don't mind it being that way here where I live on the west coast, but I was in the cold weather just a day ago. I frequently drive into areas of the US with icy roads and freezing weather and it's not good to have 'firmware problems' on your 2015 Honda Fit LX CVT computer in dangerous weather conditions ;-{ Plus I imagine it will have a negative effect on American Honda's public relations and will adversely lower sales of 3rd generation Fit models to prospective new car buyers.

Solution to problem, now identified, is on the way. On manual transmission Hondas, the clutch must be fully depressed before the car will start. There is a clutch switch that "tells" the starter system that the clutch is depressed. Apparently someone slipped the clutch a dose of Prozac.

Glad you got yours figured out, but now I wonder if the OP got his problems figured out.
You kinda hijacked a thread that was about another car with a similar but different problem.

Hijacking was semi-intentional. Starter problems being starter problems are related, although from different sources. Several people responded to the OP and I though I could piggyback, attracting more eyes and skills.
