HELLo from Canada (2013 MT)

HELLo Fit Freaks,

I used to drive a '98 Chrysler Intrepid that I got for free from my parents, which was rusting badly, heavily burning oil and just falling apart. I wanted a newer car that was better on gas, safer, stability control, ABS, working A/C, CD player and a working radio...features that my Big Ol' Sexy Red didn't have or broke.

Did a lot of research and my top 2 picks were a 2nd gen Prius or a 2nd gen Fit w/ MT due to their reliability, fuel economy & decent cargo space. I chose the Fit for it's extra cargo space & smart rear seats, the GENIUS dash-cup-holders, but also for the more fun to drive experience. For my 29th birthday last year, I bought a used 2013 Honda Fit LX with 5-spd M/T at just under 24,000 mile (38,000 km), as my first manual transmission car.

Driving a manual Fit is a lot of fun! But my first couple of weeks were pretty bad, a lot of stalling and stressing out like mad when having to stop on a hill with traffic behind me.
I feel heavily involved in driving now & more connected with the car. Been paying attention and focusing more on the whole driving experience and the traffic around me since switching from auto. Auto boxes feel like a boring video game (left, right, gas, brake).

I'm a bit of a hypermiler, trying to get the best fuel mileage I can without disrupting other drivers. I keep the tires at 44 PSI front and 42 PS rear. So far my average fuel mileage has been 36 MPG (6.6 L/100km) but I would like to see it climb up to 40 MPG, especially after I get better at shifting gears and get into some warmer weather.

Thanks Action Jackson and Black3sr.

I also live in Ontario somewhere between you two - in Guelph, after having lived 8 years in Toronto. So glad to have escaped the rat-race rush-hour madness. Outside the big city it's a pleasure to drive.

Black3sr - awesome mods on your Fit, looks really good. Must have costed a few coins, eh?
I can't afford any right now, still paying the car and student loans. I need new tires soon and was thinking of getting some alloy wheels (used from Kijiji) and then keep the steel rims for winter tires.

A few coins over the years.

I still have my original Alloy Sport wheels and tires. Not many miles on them and the rims are like new. $500. Send me E-Mail if interested.

Hey Andrei, welcome! Good looking Fit you got there, should be a better choice over Prius.

Welcome Canuck! You made a good choice. I rented a Prius before buying my Fit and I'm glad I chose the Fit. I love it.
