Hi everyone, just bought a 2008 Fit Sport, it will be a dd but I'm very picky bout stuff. Going to take it to our trusted dealership (yes it is possible, to trust a dealership) and i want to know if there are specific things i should have them check. 71k miles on the car, original suspension. I'm going to get a compression check done, valves adjusted (i hear that faint ticking valves possibly or injectors) anything specific to these gen 1 cars i should have them focus on? Like to fix things WAY before they become an issue. Thanks for all your help in advance. Pics coming soon as i change headlights out for LED ones, Progress 22mm anti sway bar also.

 

Its not just trust with the dealer,, my local indy mech charges < 1/2 of the dealers labor cost..

Based on AGE plus mileage your plugs are due and likely the coil packs. Yes you could run them for a while, but 200 bucks every 80K to avoid random ignition failures.. I'll live with it..

Oh yea, they have to remove the coil packs to do the valve adjust, so make sure they don't double dip the labor on you.. It doesn't cost more labor to use new coils vs old, but if you buy them from a honda dealer you'll have to bend over, they charge more apiece for them than rock auto does for a set of 4..

 

That ticking is normal but a valve adjustment won't hurt anything.

Check your spare tire well for water. These cars are prone to develop leaks there and in the rear passenger area. Check your VIN at Honda's Ownerslink website to make sure there aren't any open recalls.

Honda automatics benefit from regular ATF changes. If you don't have service records, prepare to replace it.

Each drain & fill freshens about 1/3 of the fluid. Safest fluid to use is Honda's DW-1 fluid.

 

Thank you Car buff. Yea not getting the records from the original owner kinda sucks. ... but ill be starting her new life off correctly. Dealership i bought it from did an oil change but that's going to be done again, full synthetic! Mobile 1 :-) and now ATF flush, brake flush, rad flush and ps flush.

 

You can skip the PS flush (as the Fit has electric-assisted steering).


ATF maintenance (single drain & fill) are best done every 30K miles or three years whatever comes first.

I would change the coolant with Honda fluid. Enjoy your Fit. My 2008 has been trouble free!

 

Thanks Dan. Doing a coolant flush and brake flush this weekend plus installing a 22mm progress rsb. Tranny service to be done at dealership next week. Is there that much difference between auto store coolant and Honda specific coolant?

 

I've been using the Zerex asian car formula antifreeze, system seems to be staying clean so far, I did it mostly cause its available at most standard auto parts stores and I hate the service and parts department at my local dealer, they are a pain to get to ,, good parts counter guys but parking sucks..

Mostly just pay attention to the specs of the fluid your changing whether it be oil, coolant break fluid etc. As long as it meets the spec for the OEM vendor of the tranny,, I'm happy, others will surely have different opinions.. Its the internet after all..
