The Fit that goes (400k+ miles)

Hi all, I've been lurking around here but have never bothered to post here unless it's in the classifieds haha.

I purchased an '09 Fit (base, manual) from a buddy of mine at 389k miles back in May. He was the original owner and used it for work for a few years until he had switched careers. It was sold to me to try and continue it's legacy since I also drive a lot... and no one else wanted to buy it.

As of now (01/14/17) it is almost at 418k miles.

The day I got it-

Took it on a journey from Delaware to Toronto in July looking a lot better than the day I got it. It was buffed, new-ish 2012+ black headlights, OEM fogs...

400k money shot

Then drove it to Texas in August, along with some stops...

Not too much has changed with it besides many more miles, non-threatening airbags, Osram blinding headlight bulbs, refurb front calipers after one original one failed on me, Ohtsu tires all around, and a variable intermittent wiper switch. I have a few other things on it I haven't mentioned and also have a stash of goodies for it as well.

Nice. It's good that you're carrying on the tradition of the original owner - he seems to have taken good care of it.

You seem to love your new/old Fit so you'll "fit" in nicely here so welcome aboard.

By the way, how much did you pay for it?

WOW. that's amazing that it keeps running with no mechanical issues. and considering the distances you drive, that mileage will get up there pretty quickly. good to know I got a long way to go to catch up to your mileage LOL

Thanks! I like to think the Fit *fits* me well.

I paid $1200 for it (KBB for the mileage at the time was roughly $1700) which I think is a steal.

Currently near 418,500. Just installed it's third alternator and about to change the original serpentine belt tensioner tomorrow when it comes in.

Thanks for posting pics of your recent trip. That’s impressive mileage for your car. Have you replaced the timing chain on your car yet ?

250k miles is still an impressive number! I occasionally hear my non-car friends complain about 100k just so they have a reason to finance a new car they don't have the budget for.

Incredible!
Do you mind sharing a few details about your maintenance strategy?
Specifically, I am interested in what engine oil you use and how often you change it? Also what oil and air filter?
Cheers!

Julian's maintenance strategy is: "This weekend I'm going to fix what broke last weekend." We're talking 400k+ mi., remember?

Oil? We don't need no stinking oil! Julian uses agave syrup (100% Puro de Agave). No need to change it. Just drink more tequila. Should be fine.

There is a specific thread of the journey in 2nd generation subforum, and the oil grade and change interval is described in post #5: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...ml#post1370255
