The Fit that goes (400k+ miles)
There is a specific thread of the journey in 2nd generation subforum, and the oil grade and change interval is described in post #5: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...ml#post1370255
Julian's maintenance strategy is: "This weekend I'm going to fix what broke last weekend." We're talking 400k+ mi., remember?
Oil? We don't need no stinking oil! Julian uses agave syrup (100% Puro de Agave). No need to change it. Just drink more tequila. Should be fine.

He explained in that same post why he ended up using this oil. As the car has 525+ k miles in it now, the oil seems to be OK.
Yup, diesel oil in a gas/petrol engine. Subaru nuts swear by Rotella, too. Well worth it for availability, full synthetic, extra additives, AND the price.
If you peep Shell's page, there are plenty of people leaving reviews with good experiences in their non-diesel vehicles. https://rotella.shell.com/en_us/prod...synthetic.html
I've used Rotella in my Fit since i've purchased it with 390k miles. It's currently at 544k miles now and still going strong. My previous Honda ('99 Acura Integra GSR) barely burned oil using Rotella, and I've had that for 90k miles. My Miata and CB360 both take Rotella. Haven't looked back since.
Oil and oil changes are subjects that, for some reason, everyone had their own view of. Usually, people make decisions based on cost, not based on what is good for the car. The old rule of an oil change at 3k mi. or 1 year, whichever comes first, still holds. The Maintenance Minder is like an Idiot Light. I'm not sure it has the correct answers for any questions. Mercedes-Benz tells customers that they can go 100k without an oil change. Why not 250k? Why not 1 million mi.?
I made a joke because the subject lends itself to satire. Pablo should change his oil every 3k mi., and he should spend at least $10 per quart on oil and only use Honda OEM filters. Will he do this? Let's ask him.

@Julian: Diesel oil in a gas/petrol engine? I suppose. Kinda showin' off though, ain't ya?

Thank you for all of the amazing posts julianachos!! I have been following this thread for nearly 4 years and this is hands down the best on all of Fitfreak. Everything from your magazine quality photos to your maintenance logs are top notch. I have a 13 Silver Fit Base with 102,000 miles that I bought new and you have inspired me to go the distance and keep it INDEFINITELY.... or at least till they ban gas powered cars all together LOL.
If I were you I would Go ALL Out for 1 million miles..... Sell all the other cars and completely restore the 09 base. Get a new bumper, replace the rusted metal quarter panels in the back... Drive to California better yet Alaska.... Your dog
clearly loves the fit better. How many other cars do you know with over 500k miles new engine or not? Regardless what you end up doing... thank you for taking us all on the journey with you.
