Guys, if you plan on grabbing to eat something before rolling consider "Texas Roadhouse". It is at the same mall just down the street from Walmart. They have the best meat/BBQ by far at prices that will shock you. I guarantee you that you can eat for $15-20 per plate much better meat than in famous steak houses for $45! Ribs are to die for! Prime rib is unfortunately served only after 4pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Atmosphere is cool with peanut shells on the floor, just ignore Country music! Willie Nelson co-owns the franchise and BBQ sauce is made with his choice of whiskey for the aroma!

For the driving route, keep in mind that Calaveras road is packed with cyclists, bikers and ton of cars on weekends just as up Mt.Diablo. Road is not really a two lane road, but more narrow forcing tight squeeze with opposite traffic on most sections. Also be aware that majority of drivers/riders you will encounter on that road HAVE NO EXPERIENCE USING such a road! Count on staying at 35mph!
If you can swallow all negatives and would like to extend the cruise, continue up Palomares road. You will eventually reach 580FWY between Castro Valley and Pleasanton/Dublin. From there you can get going West and eventually back to 880.
I might join you time permitting.
