Willow Springs Track Day May 26/27

When : May 26th / 27th, 2007
Where : Willow Springs
Track : Streets of Willow

How much : $80 if we have 25 ppl
Held by : Speed Trial USA SpeedTrialUSA Official Site
Imma try this again, last time we got a total of 5 ppl and everyone had a good time and found out what their car could do so lets try to make this happen again
If we can get 25 ppl, it would cost 80 bucks a day which is 40 bucks cheaper than regular price. We get 5-6 20 minute runs which is plenty.
If you have not gone, you will be put into the beginner group which is good, they will teach you as the day goes on and by the end of the day you will be ripping it up.
If you have been on the track already then you can be put into intermediate or so, but if u like to, you can also run in the beginner, its up to you.
Once i get 25 ppl i will start collecting money to insure that this will happen, last time too many ppl flaked.

Questions and Answers

Q: I plan to get a SA2000 helmet, but was curious as to why M2000 aren't allowed?
A: SA2000 is for automobiles, fireproof and is able to withstand multiple impacts. M2000 is for motorcycles, not fireproof and is only good for one big impact.

Q: I got myself a used helmet for autocross, it's Snell-95 or M95. Will I be able to use it?
A: The track tech is very strict and will not allow any motorcycle helmets. The helmet must be Snell Auto SA2000 or SA2005).

Q: Do I need to modify or have a real fast car to participate?
A: Most of our participants bring street daily drivers and some bring full prep race cars for practice and testing. You do not have to have a real fast car to participate. You will learn much more if the car is not too fast.

Q: Do I need to drive real fast?
A: No, you will learn and drive at your own pace. Your speeds will automatically increase as you learn more from our instructors.

Q: Are driving suits or any other safety equipment required?
A: No they are not required, but any safety equipment is always recommended.

Q: Is there a age limit?
A: The age limit is usually 18 years of age or older, with exception of skill younger drivers with a parent present.
Q: Is this a race?
A: No, and this applies to all beginner, intermediate and for the most part advanced groups. although we space each car out on the track together, eventually a fast car will catch another at one point or another. This is handled by passing only on the straights with the passing flag. We have rules and track etiquette that we expect from each and every participant. Our corner marshals are very strict, because safety is our main concern.
Q: According to your website, you say that this is not wheel-to-wheel racing but as I look at the pictures from past events, it sure looks like wheel-to-wheel racing.
A: Yes we do have a race competition group, called Challenge Cup. This group is completely separate from the other regular run groups.

Q: How much track time do I get? And how many cars will be on with me?
A: You will have 20 minutes per session. There are approximately 4 to 6 of these sessions per day.

Q: How many cars will be on the track at once?
A: Depending on the track, there will be approximately 20-30 cars per session.

Q: Can I self-tech the car with the tech form you provided on your website?
A: Yes, if you are 20 miles or more away from any of our pre-tech stations. More info: Speed Trial USA

Q: Do I use the 'Tech Inspection Form' as the check list to adhere to for all necessary requirements?
A: Yes as long as you can pass tech form, You will be permitted on the track.

Q: Would you recommended me to purchase an extra set of wheels and tires to run on? Or would it be fine for me to drive on the wheels I use on a daily basis?
A: It is always a good idea to have extra tires/wheels for the track. this way if anything happens to them, you
will have your street tires to go home on. The track is a long way from home and towing is very expensive.

Q: If I bring a guest, can he ride in cars as a passenger?
A: No, for safety reasons, all groups are not allowed to take passengers. Instructors, however, have the exception and can take passengers.

Q: What class do you think I should be in?
A: Obviously if u haven't taken any driving schools you will run in the beginner group. If you have taken some driving schools and are familiar with track flag rules and track etiquette then you can choose the intermediate.

Q: Who are the instructors at the events and can anyone get an instructor if needed?
A: Our instructors are from SCCA and NASA license drivers. We are obviously short on instructors, so we will do the best we can do for ride along as they will be more concentrated on the beginner run groups.

Q: What level and amount of instruction could they expect to receive?
A: For the beginners, we will have basic safety instructions and basic race lines. More of the instruction will be on the safety rules and track courtesy. Once they have learned and applied all these basics, the track will be a lot more fun.

Q: What do you guys have on hand for a safety crew and corner marshals for your events.
A: Our events all have either a fire rescue or an emergency medical transport (EMT) on standby and hope we never have to use them. Our corner marshals are well trained to help and assist all our participants track side at all blind corners.

Q: Is this dangerous? Has there been accidents at your events?
A: Yes, Motorsports is dangerous just like many other sports. So is driving on the public highways. And yes we have had cars totaled at our events due to driving beyond ones ability. Accidents can happen anywhere, anytime and any place.

Q: Is there motor coach parking (with trailer) -close proximity to pits?
A: Yes there is parking for your coach and or trailer near the pits.

Q: Can I bring my dog / pet? She is very well behaved and will be leashed.
A: As long as she is on the leash, it's ok

$80 is a great deal for a full track day.
I will most likely be going.
