Look out for Hit and Runner - 4XBM396

tonight the gf and i were driving on the 10 East at around 730pm. traffic backed up..barely moving. car in front of me suddenly stopped..i stopped (wasn't going fast..maybe 10-15mph)...and behind me i hear screeching and then i felt the hit.

the guy tried to switch over to next lane and speed off..but i sped up behind him and then next to him and told him to exit. he said ok..so i was about to exit and he sped off (this was my first "accident" and i was stupid enough to let him be behind me while i was exiting..i should of either went behind him or just stopped when he hit me)

anyways, i was quick enough to not exit and i chased him down. started from Fremont chased to Walnut Grove then lost him cuz he was driving super fast...we were weaving in and out...i know i shouldnt have done it..but i was piss...i was driving in the center lane between the carpool and freeway lanes to catch up.

long store short..he left...i called CHP..CHP looked at my car and there were NO DAMAGE AT ALL! NOT ONE SCRATCH or dent! but that hit was at least 10mph. the ONLY impact i see is the left side bumper has a .005 bigger gap with the rear fender compare to the right side...but you cant even tell unless you put ur fingers on each side and compare. CHP cannot write report since there wasn't any damage.

if you see this guy...do me a favor and follow him to his house. I want to know where this guy lives.

his info:

Hispanic male 17-25 years of age
92-95 black civic coupe, lowered, steelies, faded hood, LX model, exhaust
License plate: 4XBM396

watch out for this guy as he was doing some hand signs prior to speeding off. i am more piss at him running off and his shadiness..than him hitting my car.

thanks.

Should of call CHP when he started running. I would suspect he doesn't have insurance. Not the first time I heard of someone fleeing after hitting another car on the freeway.
Edit: check behind the plastic bumper cause there could be damage. Hope not.

I was involved in a hit and run a few years back, and like you since there was no damage to my rear bumper, the cops didn't pursue anything. However, like Fitting said, check for internal damages even though everything looks fine on the surface.

i showed my car to my uncle who is a body shop guy for over 20 years..and he told me that there weren't any damage behind the bumper. lucky my fit is still in perfect condition!

but yeah, if anyone works for the cops or DMV here, please find this guy. i wouldnt want him to hit another person and run off with it...because i would imagine he would run even if its a serious accident.

Man, sorry to hear you had to experience this, and I am glad your car is ok.

Just a reminder that chasing him down is too dangerous to be worth. Police will never approve of you taking this in your own hands. If you hit someone else while chasing, it's totally your fault.

Finally, you know how crazy LA is. That guy could have had nothing to lose, being illegal, gang member with criminal history, so he could have pulled out a gun.

Whatever the damage, it's just not worth it.

i went to the CHP office yesterday and I filed a counter report for the hit and run incident. the officer told me the accident unit will run its plate and my description of the vehicle and see if they match..if they do, they will mail him a notice asking for info regarding the incident.

they gave me the # to the accident unit and told me to follow up after 3 weeks.

I hope they get that guy....but knowing how slow CHP respond...i am skeptical.

BTW: LETS say they find the guy...and since my car had no damage...what should i have them do to him? I dont want him to be off with a "warning". can he get jail time for it?

i would file a claim against his insurance company (assuming he even has insurance) to pay for whatever damages there are on your Fit. even if it means you only need to have the area of impact detailed. the claim will be on his record and his premium should go up if even only by a little... hit him where it hurts most

Running away like that usually means no insurance, no license, possibly stolen car.

Well, it is a Felony hit and run situation, so the driver will have ramifications for that. As far as what will happen with your car, let your insurance company deal with that. If the guy is found and has no insurance, they will try and go after him for that. If he is found and has insurance, your insurance company will go after his for reimbursement. well, that's what i have seen happen.
