No, those are Homebrew, emulators, file managers, etc.

is this like the 360 where you can get banned online? Also, what are the benefits?

No one knows yet. Sony would know if you hacked your system but sicne there is no effective way to play copied games this route then I don't see the harm in doing it.

There really would be no way to stop it either. Not hardware other than an external HD is required.

I installed it mostly because I want them to port XBMC to it so I can use the PS3 as an all in one media server.

Dreamcast emulation is coming and there wil be a ton of Homebrew soon too.

Well, it will become a war between the patchers and Sony.

I could see them banning PSN names/consoles like they do with the 360 but I doubt that will happen.

There is no way to stop it because geohot essentially gave out the keys to the kingdom for the PS3.

PS4 might be rushed now.

In light of the current events surrounding the hack I am keeping my PS3 OFFLINE until I know for sure nothing will happen.

Hopefully a full customer firmware comes soon that doesn't contact PSN when the system goes online.

no word yet. there's no reports of people getting banned but they most likely have the ability to ban and brick consoles over the internet.

i'm working on getting gt5 to play off of my hd for faster loading.

The PS3 is turning into the 360 in terms of how easy it is to play 'backup' games on it. Just saw a forum that has practically every ps3 game released ready for download from direct download hosting sites.

I won't be doing that on my ps3 though cause there's no games worth playing lol
