Any autocrossers???

I'm planning to dump my BMW for a Fit by the end of the year, and I'm an avid autocrosser. I really love the Fit, and I have a feeling the Fit could compete well in H-Stock or STS at the least on a regional level.

I was wondering if anyone plans to or already has autoXed their Fit and what set-up you are going to try...

Mine is on its way - I should get it next week. I'm getting a Sport with AT. The past few years I've only run a couple of events a year, and from everything that I've read, I probably won't loose too much with the AT. We'll see!!

I'll have mine broken in pretty quickly. The Region that I run with has an autocross scheduled for June 11th.

I'm just going to run it bone stock for this event, and see how it does. We have a small region and usually less than 20 cars per event. However, one of them is a Mini, so I'll be able to do some comparisons. I'm sure I'll be loading the tires up with air; how much is yet to be determined... I may take a set of Falken's that I have on 14" CRX wheels, and run with them so I don't mess up my stock tires.

If I do well with the Fit, then I'll probably see about some wheels/tires for competition. I have two sets of 13" BFG T/A R1's for my CRX's right now; alas, they won't work with the Fit.

I've won my Region's annual autocrossing several times over the past 20 years. We PAX all times so it works out relatively even between the cars.

I run in the Washington, DC area, so 20 cars is like half of one heat at a typical event. I do about 3-4 events per month, so I'm hoping a Fit will show up to one by the end of summer.

I think it would do better in HStock against the Minis than my 318 has fared.

I plan on autocrossing the Fit for awhile and give my S2K a rest while getting the supercharger installed. I wonder how it will do against the Mini's in H-Stock. No you don't need a license to autocross. Just need to sign up for SCCA or with whoever organizes your events.

For all the autoXes I've done, you usually need a normal valid driver's license issued by your state. Also, for some groups if you're under 18, you need a waiver signed by both parents to participate for insurance purposes. I've seen some 13-15 yr olds autoX karts.

There is no specific autocross license that you need to have to participate.

Do I autocross? This thing is only limited by the size of your balls.

I really want to try out the fit in an autox course though. At first I thought that the Fit wouldnt compare at all to the Mini. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut after a little bit of research, heres what I found:

Mini Fit (bold is better)
Wheelbase(in.): 97.1| 96.5
Length (in.): 143.0| 157.4
Height (in.): 55.9 | 60.0
Width (in.): 66.5 | 66.2
Track (in., front/rear): 57.4/57.7 |57.3/57.1
Curb Weight (lbs., MT): 2524 | 2432
Weight Dist.(F/R): 60.3/39.7| 62/38
0-60mph(sec.): 8.5 | 9.3

The Mini seems to have an advantage as far as power goes (although ive heard people get 9.3 second 0-60's from their autos!). I predict that the Mini and the Fit will be able to pull about the same lateral G's. I would like to say that the Mini would have better transient response than the Fit, but the Fit did kick ass in the emergency lane change maneuver. Another cool thing about the fit is it is available with 205/45R16 tires (HFP wheel size). That means that Fit owners have can use some pretty sweet wheels (even in H-stock) if they have the same offset and size as the factory rims. However, the Mini is also available with some pretty slick rims from the factory as well. In my opinion, the Mini has an advantage over the Fit in H-stock. But I cant say if this advantage is significant. The Fit will DEFINITELY be competative in H-stock.

took it to streets of willow (friend owns a tune shop and was a private "test track day") paid the fees but worth it.

i got a Sport AT and i used the paddles the whole time. car feels surprisingly solid thorough most corners, and a lil twitchy on hard weight transfers....but then again it was completely stock and the dunlops are crap if you ask me.

but given the tires as poo its still a nice lil car to toss around every once and while.....im sure with some nice suspension goodies and better tires it would have done a whole lot better. dont know any lap times as none were recorded since it was a test day and not a time attack or open event jsut go a flog your ride hehehe

but yeah its definitly sporty enough to auto x with good tires....thats the only flaw i found with it fom factory. body roll was there but not too bad. its a tall car but the chassis is super rigid and youlll notice that in the corners.

all in all for a stock auto its FUN!

Anyone think the drive-by-wire throttle (w/ manual) will be a factor, even if only by fractions of a second (which is actually a lot)?

I agree the dunlops are poo but now I can imagine the potential of the car with better tires and since the fit's chassis is pretty stiff already, I wonder how much of a different strut bars in both the front and rear would make...

I am avid autocrosser, I run an Integra Type R in STX class. I will be going to the Solo Natls in Topeka in a couple of weeks.

Heres my cah

I plan on running the Fit at some local events after Natls just for kicks. I have a friend that has a Civic and I will borrow some of his tires/wheels to run on. I dont think the Fit will be competitive against the Minis Nationally (they can fit much more tire) but at local events could prob do ok.

The stock Mini Cooper wheels are 15x5.5" (according to their website). The stock Fit Sport wheels are 15x6". How do you figure that the Mini can fit much more tire? Is the Fit that limited by the wheel well space? (This is for H-Stock.)

Cant even the HS Minis run the 16" optional wheels? I was thinking they could, and then could run a 225 tire. I dont think a 225 would fit on the Fit w/o issues.

I'm not sure. Are the 16" Mini wheels considered stock? I don't think the 16" Fit wheels would be considered stock - they probably fall under dealer option/accessory.
