UH OH.. coil/spark plug carnage. 07 fit sport. 117k

Hey there boys and girls, it's been awhile since i have been here but I am back. and boy howdy is this interesting.
As some of you know i purchased my 07 fit sport with 72k miles back in 2014. it has served me well except for burning up a fuel pump (which i was to blame for, ran it out of gas)
aside from that it has been a good car, not the fastest as we know but did its job of shuttling the kiddos around and getting me to work.

alright well fast forward to September 2019. the car had been having a little hiccup at idle and retrospectively i do remember it having a stronger than usual gas smell, it seemed to always run rich. after awhile it had popped a code and began to run really rough(sounded like a Subaru wrx) i parked it and pulled the code which i diagnosed via scan tool as a cylinder 1 misfire, coil issue. i ordered a new coil and set out to fixing it. what i thought was going to be a quick repair turned into this.

the car has 117k on it. and had not given me any issues. when i pulled the coil off of plug #1 this is what i was met with, i immediately pulled plug #2 and attempted to thread it into cylinder #1 but to no avail. it seems it has blown the threads on the head and now i am in the process of disassembly to send the head out to be time serted.

I do believe I will do all the cylinders while i have it off and at the machine shop, it will also have new valve seals *since it was burning a bit of oil* and have it checked for straightness.

hope you guys enjoy the damage. and lets hope i can get it all squared away.

-cheers!
Coryjo!

Whoa!! That is way worse than anyone else has reported!

if this were a ge I would say, at 114k miles forget it and move on. But with a gd this should be a very rare problem unlikely to recur once fixed ...

Wow, what a mess! Hey, had you ever changed the plugs in the car before?

Thanks for the feedback, cory. Are the denso ik22 stock?

I had a similar issue, I was getting codes for cylinder 2 and 4 but the head of my coil pack broke off and the other half was stuck in the port.

I have been dragging my feet as it is been a nuisance rather than priority not having the car to drive.. update is as follows crank pulley is a bastard to get off so i need the keeper tool or holder for the crank pulley (my impact would not crack it ) and the timing cover has proved to be a bastard in its orientation of bolts. but other than that.. it is a simple take apart/ put back together affair. i will be doing my mounts while im there and using the ol' 3m window-weld poly trick. which i will post pictures of the amazon 3m upgrade as i do it and before i install it.
cheers!

I find the best way to get it off is with the crank tool like you mentioned, a set of impact extensions, very larger breaker bar, jack stand and 6 foot cheater pipe. Rest the ratchet and extension combo on the jack stand, set the holder tool against a block of wood and put that pipe on the end of the breaker bar.

Good luck.

Judging from your pictures of the coilpack and spark plug, my brother's GE looked just like that and from what I remember the threading that touched the spark plug was completely gone. I bought a cheap endoscope camera to check things out. I ended up using a helicoil and that fixed the problem. You might want to look into it.

At least I think it was fixed. He was T-boned a few months after that.
