Valve adjustment
Valve adjustment
Hey yall, I recently adjusted the valves and somehow mucked it up and now the valves are making MORE noise then they were prior to my attempt. So that being said I'm going to go back in there and fix my mistakes. While I was in adjusting them the first time I noticed a tiny bit of play in each of the valves. What is the protocol for this? Do I pick it up and then put the feeler gauge in? Or leave it and slide the gauge in?
Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for how to make this job as accurate as possible?
Also, it has been about 1500 miles. Do you think I should replace the gaskets again?
And any torque wrench recommendations would be great. I had a Pittsburg wrench but am afraid it has gone out of spec. Not looking to break the bank but would be interested in buying a more reliable wrench.

It might not necessarily be a problem, if the clearances were too small before - as they say, a tappy valve is a happy valve (or, hilariously, better to hear 'em than smell 'em!). What did they measure before the adjustment?
Yes, you'll find that the arms have a little room to rock back and forth - that's due to the valve lash/clearance itself, and is normal and expected. Rock it back to give the largest gap for measuring (though the feeler gauge may be able to push it out of the way).

Ya know I didn’t take any note of what they measured before. The intakes were all a little tight though if I remember right. I had to go back and redo the exhaust bc I accidentally adjusted them all to the intake specs. My main concern, having never done it before, was getting the pistons to TDC.
they are tappy but I don’t smell anything. And the gas mileage stayed about the same
