Hey guys,

First post, hopefully this is a good thread for it. I have a 2012 Honda Fit with 135k miles. My mechanic is telling me a cylinder blew the spark plug out and tore the threads out. He’s saying that a repair, for example helicoil, would require removal of the engine to access and accomplish. Likely would have to scrap the car. I wanted to get some feedback if the group agrees this is true. Thanks in advance.

 

The repair will be easier with the engine out, but I don't think it has to be out.

There are quite a few threads here where folks have done the repair or had a mechanic do it, so if you go through those you'll probably learn all the details.
