hallowing out catalytic convertor
I think Im the only person thats done it on the Fit.
The sound didnt change much. I noticed a little more gain. Mid range.
It was a while ago. I noticed a big gain when buying the T1R cat-delete.
And its not that much.

yeah where can i sell that? haha
also those are illegal for emissions here in maryland. thats why i was asking about hallowing it out so when they use their mirriors it will appear that its there. how easy would it be to take it on/off for emissions?

don't do it. you won't gain much since this is a small NA engine and what little you gain will be, if you're honest with yourself, imperceptible. you'll notice a bad tank of gas before you notice a "hollowed" out cat on an NA 4cyl. the smell of unburned hydrocarbons, while cool at the track, is terrible on a daily driver. additional sound does not mean more objective performance, though it my sound more exciting. your back bumper will get way sooty too. plus, being green is the new cool thing.
Well near me there is a place that buys the cats for the platinum inside it. They won't buy one if it's hollowed out. We usually get $95 for Honda Cats. I'm sure there is a place near you that does the same thing. Just gotta find them.
Why would you want to drill it out, thats just a waste of a perfectly good cat, and the platinum inside. just replace it with an "off-road" pipe, since you'll need it later to get smogged. IMHO if you want power you might as well replace the whole exhaust system and not just the cat, since you will remove more than one restriction. I'd rather stay green and keep it on
Ok I’ll be honest. The removal of the cat will provide a gain (not drill but a Megan racing replacement) which is available on E-bay as well as various other locations on the net. It will give you HP but it will 1, be louder and 2 smell bad and shorten your life span due to the chemicals that come out of it. I for 1 hate it due to it giving me a sore throat, as well as he fumes hurting the eyes. This is a very common mod on the ae86 and it’s horrible if you ask me. On a wrx/evo it will make tons of power as that is the major restriction but if it’s a daily drive I still won’t recommend it as it’s not healthy.
since ive never smelled it before ill wait til my friend gets his in a few weeks and see how badly it bothers me. also i am aware that its not healthy green and theres laws. hippies and their crazy imagination... ;p as somebody and as tuna said i will keep it to switch back for emissions testing if i dont mind the smell so much. i dont have much of a sense of smell any ways. we'll see . thx
hollowing a cat is stupid. it was stupid in 1999 when every ricer thought it was the hot thing to do, and it's stupid now.
you will LOSE POWER! That is, if your cat is 100% mechanically sound. Reason being is that when the exhaust goes into the cat...it will expand, then it'll become VERY turbulent when it has to contract back to go into the exit.
believe me or not, its' the truth. friends dyno'd MANY setups and proved this MANY times a few years back at EuroSpeed, INC....in Cary, NC. The test were done by Alex, Jason Waddsworth (Jdogg for those that know), and i was present on a few them myself.

absolutely correct! the cat system is part of the equation for back pressure in na cars to gain torque.
now, i recall seeing a high flow cat that aj racing is selling with the t1r street package turbo kit. i was planning on looking into that once i decide on a turbo kit. (or whoever makes a carb legal one first) anyone have any say on those?
I have done it in my Honda City, took the CAT out and empty it, hell it too some time to break it out. The results there is more sound but from the CAT as it rattels, as for power mostly cam high end. Later on bought header with downpipe that didn't have CAT and it sound almost the same. Taking off CAT will give power but maybe not that much in small engines. I have done it before in my previous cars like my SEAT it had 1.0L engine max speed was 160kph after taking off the CAT it hit 165kph not much but it was free power. Some CATS are inside the exhaust stock manifold and those are very restrictive and again had car that had this type of CAT and when I empty the manifold wow what more power I gained. So the best thing don't empty the CAT because you still can sell your old stocks one, and install stright pipe.
