My Engine Detail.
My Engine Detail.
Ok, this is my first go at my engine, sadly no before shots so this thread may be a bit of a damp squid but trust me it was dirty, not too handy with a camera yet but here goes anyway.
1, Sprayed with Auto Glym Enigine and Machine Cleaner.
2, Rinse down with water from a spray bottle (didn't have the guts to use hose)
3, Dipstick Handle cleaned with WD40,(Was loads of oil on that)
4, Dry excess water with old towel
5, Spray over with Auto Glym Instant Tyre Dressing.(Don't worry can be used on engines also)

clean! good job.
for those that like a matte finish, i recommend Prima Nero.
Detailers Paradise: Premium Car Care Products, Auto Detailing
it's more matte than Aerospace303.

My engine bay didn't even look that good when it was bran spankin new
...at the lot
!!!!Thats one mighty fine engine bay bosshog !!!
thinking back it's not that hard, just section the engine off in your mind into four squares (if that makes sense) and set to work, mind you i have a fair few scratches on my hands and arms due to reaching down into the engine, well worth the effort though. Some of you may know this site Detailing World - A world for detailers by detailers. either way head to the show room section, there is some superb work on show, Thanks for the comments BTW.
that sucks, mine even had 100 miles on it when I picked it up
heh i did that once. i sprayed my entire engine with engine degreaser.( integra) and kinda gave it a good scrub with a rag. then i hosed it down with a pressure washer, and then for drying i took a leaf blower, JUST sprayed it down till dry.
then it got dirty again, because i did a canyon run the next week

Boss, beautiful job. looks fantastic.
degreasing a newer engine is a bad road. at the factory they coated the engine with a high-heat tolerant wax that protects from corrosion essentially for the the life of the motor or until a product like simple green or an engine degreaser is applied. you can buy engine wax sprays to recoat your motor, also watch out to see that you are not drying out your hoses and belts.
I usually lightly hose down the entire engine bay, avoiding the alternator, battery, fuse box, plugs, intake etc. and use a good round brush to remove most of the grime.
then I use mild detergent (car wash solution for example) on the plastic parts and scrub with a rag.
Towel dry every surface i can reach, turn on motor and let it run to dry it out
the next day, after its good and dry and completely cool i spray some belt dressing on the belts and i detail all the plastic and hoses etc with detailing spray or wipes.

BY THE WAY YOUR ENGINE BAY LOOKS SUPER!!!!
the snow finally stopped.......and my engine bay is DIRTY, thank you tons and tons of michigan salt/dirt
im not ok with hosing down the new engine so i think im going to
buy a degreaser, spray sections at a time....water down with a spray bottle (to avoid battery, alt, fuse box)
clean plastics, with cleaner and shine wipes
tough spots with brush.
so hope it works!

Modern engine compartments are designed and built to be fairly weather resistant. There is no harm in using a garden hose to rinse off a dirty engine. Just use caution to not spray water directly into the intake, and never hose down a hot engine. I wouldn't use a pressure washer as the high pressure water stream can cause physical damage to components, not to mention the water damage from forcing water past seals designed to keep road splashed water out.
In over twenty years of washing engine compartments in all of the cars I've owned, only one gave me any problems afterward. All that turned out to be was a cracked distributor cap.
