Not sure why I could not find this in a search so here I go. I'm pretty sure one of my Honda books says when to do the 1st change, but can't find it. Anyone? Miles or % done what book and page?

I'm over 4,000 miles and the minder says oil is still 50%.

I'm thinking the millage is at my comfort level limits no matter what yellow glop Honda started with or 50%.

Normal driving change is recommended every 7,500 miles. Severe driving change is recommended every 5,000 miles.

Aye mine was about 7K for the first change 15% left I think...

 

I did my first change at 3750 ish, just to eliminate some of the gunk that may have been left in the motor from the factory, it was fairly dark, I'm still a fan of every 3k after the first change, but since I use synthetic in the Fit I'll be stepping it up to 5k.

 

I change the oil when the car tells me to.. when it displays 15% on the dash. On average it's been around every 7000km's.

I could not find the answer to my question. the location in the owners manual for when YOU NEED CHANGE THE 1ST OIL FILL. Not normal fills but the 1st one. As you say it's found on the giant sticky, please post the note that answers my question.

To me it's looks like Know one else knows as I see owners changing it from 3000 to 7000 mils and 60% to 15% oil life lol

 

If I start the car and the "oil life" is showing, then it is time for an oil change. Plus, why would you change it earlier? I've heard that the initial break in oil needs to be in there to help things break in properly. Plus, if Honda really did want you to do your first oil change at 3000, they could have easily programming the computer to tell you so.

people need to relax, lol this issue is a biggy for fitters...
some get so heated over when they feel it should be changed,
in the end its your own car and you can do what ever you want

but honda recommends to wait til the MM gets to 15%,


i dont believe its the miles anyway but the revolutions that make it change..
(did i just start a debate?)

 

I changed my oil for the first time at 20 miles. Then again at 1,500 miles and then right on track at 5,000 miles.

on the driver's side windshield? i had a coupon for a free oil change so i had
it done at the dealer about 3wks ago.

on it, they usually put like the milage and month to come back but
this time they just put 15%

haha, thought that was kinda funny, but yet very easy to understand.

 

Honda puts in additives that help break in the engine properly. If they wanted the oil changed sooner they would recommend it. Do you think they got the reputation of having the longest lasting engines in the world by giving bad advice so people wear out their engines before their time?
Changing the oil as soon as you get the car is a throwback to the the 60's and 70's when the metals used in the engines and for the rings weren't of the quality that the Japanese cars use these days. The engines then used to scrape off a lot of filings when there were new so you wanted to change the oil ASAP. Now it is just a waste of money as well as a waste of those chemicals that are supposed to help your new engine break in properly.
Do as you want. For me I'm going to follow Honda's recommendations for a longer lasting car.

 

I am changing mine at about 1000km.
The "special" additives are mostly assembly lube. If you take the time to section your filter you will find it full of metal particulate.
People that say "it was a 70's thing" have no idea.
As a mechanic and an engine builder I want the original oil out of there as soon as possible.
After that is every 5000-7000km.

 

Now I'm confused. Change oil asap (about 400mi on mine) or wait for MM?!?!?!?! I don't know why Honda wouldn't just do an oil change as soon as you buy the car, if that was the case...

 

You need a multitude of heat cycles before a new engine starts to loosen up. No need to change it at the dealer when new.
I have seen many new cars with filters completely full or plugged (on by-pass!) with as little as 5000km.
I recommend (insist actually) that any new engine I build gets the oil dumped at 500 miles.
But I'm old school and old habits die hard. But nobody can argue when you cut that filter in half and have a peak at how fulll it is on a new engine.
Same with sythetics. They will far outlast conventional oils before breaking down but this also means they will continue to hold all the particulte that can't be filtered in suspension, just like they were designed to do. And I don't want that grinding away in my engines so I change the oil.
