DIY: Dust/Pollen Filter Replacement

Just thought I would do a quick DIY on the dust/pollen filter replacement. The ISO was off on my camera for some of the photos, but, you'll get the point.

Open Glove Box:

Pull in the left and right side of the glove box like so. This will allow the compartment to open up fully.

Anything inside will fall out on the floor.

On both side pinch in these tabs that hold the filter in. While doing so pull it towards you. This is where the filter element is.

Filter in tray:

Take out the filter and replace with the new one. It should only go in one way as there is a direction for the air flow marked on the plastic tray.

Take note that the ECU is in that location as well. Just an FYI.

Sweet, now I know where it is!

For you guys who have replaced this filter at the owners manual recommended intervals, are you finding it too early or too late when you inspect the old filter condition?

I replaced mine at 19K miles and as you can see it is not really very dirty. I think it will vary depeding on the conditions you drive in each day.

I am, however, slightly frightened to see the one in my S2k which hasn't been changed in 4 years!

I'm a little over 18k, but most of my driving is in construction areas with a lot of dirt and dust. Thanks for the info Storm. I'll be changing mine out this weekend. I know it's time to change out that filter because it's starting to smell weird inside the car when I turn the a/c on.

I replace mine when it is uniformly black. You can vacuum dust from it too. (I check mine after pollen season here in NJ, three more weeks....)

The best time to replace it (if you MUST) is at the beginning of "air conditioner season".

Until the entire surface is black, the filter can still do it's job. I would have put StormSilver's back in!

Oh snap we have one of these? jajaja

I'm gonna have to check mine out, I've got 50k miles on my car and I'm a smoker so it should be pretty bad.

LOL Rising fuel (and weakening dollar for me) or not, I love my A/C!

I don't even really suffer many mpg when I use it. Maybe 2-3 mpg out of a tank; but that's it.
