Engine vibration at idle.

My GD3's engine seems to vibrate a bit on dile (hovering at around 700rpm). Don't think its misfiring since I've tried disconnectin the coil pack 1 by 1 to test.

when its cold and idling at around 1000rpm, the vibration is much less, but as it gets warmed up and as idling speed drops, the vibration gets worse. I can feel it in the driver seat and I can actually also see the engine, airbox...etc vibrating. Any idea what could be the problem??

That's quite strange. The shop manual for our GDs states 700 RPM is pretty much the normal idle speed.

Have you checked your engine and transmission supports?

I was actually just about to post about this. It's been nothing too severe, but ever since I got the car 16k miles or so ago, it'll have a slow vibration @ idle - as far as I can tell, only before it's completely warmed up.

But my dealio may not be the same, mine seems to go away once the car is warmed up. But neither is mine consistent - if I had to guess, it only shows up 1 out of 4 times.

edit: Oops, I was wrong about mine, I wasn't remembering it correctly. Mine sometimes has a gentle throb/vibration immediately after it's warmed up, not while it's at a cold idle. Then once it's been running for 5 minutes, it goes away. In other words, it's gonna be really difficult to reproduce for a Honda tech.

I'll check the tranmission mount later. My engine has only done about 39000km. Could it be a air leak or somthing??
Car drives and revs fine. The vibration goes away once it passes 1000rpm.

bump. i get this too. i also have a torque dampener set very stiff, so i think i meet feel it more than i shoudl be.

i recently got a EVAP code fixed (leak in teh fule system) and i thought maybe the vibration was normal but sinc ei had the evap code for almost the past year that it was idling higher than normal. but i guess not if other people are getting this.

1/2 the time i drive the car is about 900rpms at idle.
but sometimes it gets as low as 600-700ish and i feel it. i wouildt think it was a problem if it happened all the time, but since its kinda random, im just curious.

my car also jsut passed NYS inspection, so that even more reinforces that its normal?

Possibly could clean out the Idle Air Control valve?
Thats what i had to do for my Civic because I was having misfiring-like problems while just idling.

I'm glad I saw this, I was about to post about the same thing. Same symptoms, usually after start up when it is warm. I never had an engine that vibrated like, airbox and all. I mean it's not AWFUL but definitly odd. I can also feel it in the seat most of the time. I had that in a truck but that was with a aftermarket exhaust so there was a reason. I'm hoping to do my valves my next oil change, probably mid-may, and will report back if that helps. Car only has 23k on it.

I took mine in to clean the IACV and it didnt do anything
Sometimes they say you have to completely replace it.

You try to replace the main relay? could be electrical telling your engine to die/wake up.

idle shaking

My fit has been doing this shaking as well. It doesnt matter if it's warmed up or not, as soon as I'm at idle like at a stoplight, I feel the vibration, and it's bad enough all my passengers can feel it too. And recently, also when stopped at idle, the car kind of rumbles, like someone is pressing on the bumper, it is not quite violent but definitely not right. It's on warranty so I think I'll just take it into the dealership for service.

I think that the vibration at idle on my GD3 is caused by the alternator... If the vibration is more apparent on cool mornings after running with the lights on plus used other power draining accessories before shutting off the engine, it is probably the cause.

hi,

old topic, but no answer. maybe now someone have solved this issue? my 2008 gd3 (l12a engine) also started to vibrate on idle, on warm engine. i had some issues with "shifting" idle from between 700 to 900 earlier, but after this winter the "shifting" is gone, but engine vibrates on warm idle, even the idle is normal 700-750. car runs great overall, no issues.

possible problems: fuel system? alternator? a bit leaking radiator? needs oil change?

Me too

BUMP!!

Hey everyone, first time poster. This is an older thread, but it looks exactly like the issue I am currently experiencing. When the engine is cold, I do not experience the vibration coming from the front as I do when the engine is warm at idle. Basically...

-Sometimes when idling or in neutral, a weird vibrating/rattling noise comes from the front.
-Only happens when warm and idling at around 700-800 RPM and INSTANTLY goes away when moving/going over 1000 RPM.
-Seems to always happen when the radiator fan starts up.
-No change to performance of the car itself.

2008 Honda Fit, Manual, about 70k

If the cooling fan and air conditioner is on just after start up and the battery isn't fully charged there would be an additional load on the engine from the alternator.. All of those things together could be the cause.. The A/C will also run when the defroster is on.

I've got an EX with just over 200 miles on it and the idle sometimes seems a little lower and rougher than what I expected; maybe in the 600-700 range. When I kick on the fan or even the AC, it raises up to about 750, where I'd expect it to be, and smooths out. The car runs great, I'm just still trying to get used to what "normal" is supposed to be. At least I know I'm not the only one.

You should be driving my 87 Camry. You will never need a tach to know that engine is running
The body and passenger seat on my Fit is vibrating (and door glass vibrating as well) in drive and in park and it did this for 2 last years.
It also shifts sort of bumpy since day 1 (and I got it new)
IMO it is related to engine mounts and not the engine mechanical stuff, I could compare its vibration levels to vibration of luxury American V-8 RWD car that has over 200,000 miles (like you can see antenna and mirrors dancing but do not feel vibration on the steering or the seat)
BTW my relative's 2013 Mazda-3 even when it had ~100 miles has badly vibrating passenger seat.
