Unstable idle

I was leaving the house to go to work today, and as I started my car, I noticed that the engine shot up to 2k RPM and then came back down to 1k.

Then as I started driving, I noticed that any time I had my foot off the gas, the idle would steadily fluctuate between 1k and 2k RPM. The A/C was off, so I know it wasn't that.

I now have a check engine light and the engine continues to idle. Sometimes it will stabilize at 2k RPM, but if I touch the clutch or the gas, it starts going back and forth again.

Any ideas what this could be?

I did a quick check of vacuum lines and my EGR tubing after I parked. All seems ok.

I'm thinking I might need a new MAP sensor?

What are your thoughts? TYIA

Obd

Get an OBD Meter to plug into your connector below the dash. They are fairly cheap... $25 and up.... any auto store, or Harbor Freight. You can narrow down on the problem easier this way than trying to guess.

Codes:

P2279
P0507

Seems as though I do have a vaccuum leak. Maybe I cracked my WR intake manifold. Stupid POS

That could be a tough one to find... you may need to have Honda look at it or, get the service manual and track the vacuum paths, or stand at the engine and physically vise-grip the lines to see if you can make the idle change. I can't see how you would have cracked the intake manifold... that's really tough to do.

Just spray WD-40 anyplace and everyplace you would suspect a leak while the engine is idling, the idle speed will increase when you have sprayed the leak.

The weapon R intake manifolds are known for cracking

I'll have to try this later. Thanks

Anyone know or have a diagram of the vaccuum paths in the L15?

0507 is "idle speed greater than expected" probably caused by the 2279 code. I have been steadily chucking the 0507 since modifying the crap out of my OE mani about six weeks ago. I know mine is caused by a small leak near the TB...

If it is a leaky manifold give WR a call.... They are replacing the ones that cracked with new improved versions of the same POS whether you are the original purchaser or not.... Good luck.

Let me know if you get straightened out please..... As soon as I get what I need to get done and get out of the hole I am going to do my best to copy what you have done..... I have to know if it is 100% because I can't be having leaning out with 10PSI boost.

Yup. There was a large crack in the manifold near the throttle body. Swapped back to OEM and now it's great.

As I said above, there was a large crack (about 4 inches) along one of the welds on the manifold near the throttle body.

I think the reason that there are always cracks is because they don't make any form of support for the upper manifold. Add the weight of the throttle body and the intake, along with the high temperatures and SHITTY welding...they're just begging for stress fractures.

find a good welder in your area and just have him fix the manifold.. its most likely that.. WR will repair it but they dont do the best job and theyll return it dirty lol.

Awhile back I was going to buy a WR manifold from Felix that was leaking but missed out because PayPal was slow setting up an account for me and it got sold to someone else.... Somehow WR read the thread and they posted on it acknowledging that there was a problem with the early manifolds and to send it back..... Felix told the guy that he had sold it to someone else and they told him to have the guy send it back and he would get a new one in return, they didn't want the bad ones out there.

You wouldn't happen to have a link to the thread wheree Weapon R said they'd replace his cracked manifold, would you?

I'd like to have something to show them, just in case they try to give me the runaround.
