Sigh.... car was broke into. PLEASE HELP

Hello, did a quick search and didn't find anything. Hopefully, someone can help me.

Honda Fit 08 - Base.

It was recently broken into. Fuckheads stole some things I had in the backseat but it looked like my Pioneer Navi caught their attention most. They ripped it out including the AC controls. Being in TX, I'm dying without AC so now I need to figure out how to take care of this. I'm a car noob. I went to a car shop and one worker there just told me to save my money and do it myself.

I was just wondering if you guys can just take a look at the pictures and tell me what parts I will need to buy. Thanks so much and I hope I explained my situation well enough. If there are any questions, please ask! Damn this hot weather... rawr

Also... there's an orange cord that I have no idea about.... it looks like it was cut. Can someone let me know what that thing is?

you will need a new one of these...

The orange thing is the cord for the HVAC controls, well one of them.. i cant remember which one exactly. Are the blue and purple ones still there? if not you will need those too. But other than that you should be able to get it going.

I'd try another shop if your uncomfortable or just want it done right away. It sounds like they just didn't want to do the work. one would think a shop would want you to pay them to do the work! Good luck though.

Does anyone think that I should do this myself and save money? or do you think I should drop it off at the shop. A shop that I had my car in before quoted me around $200 (for parts and 2 hours of est. labor).

Will your car insurance not cover the replacement since it was stolen? I had my window vents stolen off my old truck and State Farm paid for the replacements.

I've been through exactly what you went through, but in my Civic. Center console, amp, sub, video camera, and 2 front windows gone. I checked out ebay and was able to find a full center radio console replacement with everything I needed to get my AC working again. This might save you, and it's less than $100. I'm pretty sure it's faster and cheaper than trying to do everything yourself.

07 08 Honda Fit Sport OEM CD MP3 WMA Radio LKQ: eBay Motors (item 390190142646 end time May-31-10 03:06:38 PDT)

Just type in 'Honda Fit OEM Radio' into ebay and you'll find it all.

Whoa thanks!!! The only question I would have at this point is if it looks like anything is missing with regards to these little colored cords. Also, I'm going to wait another day or two to see if anyone else would add advice. Afterward, I'll just get the OEM part you listed and see if I can get things working from there. The main thing is just AC for now! I'm probably going to get the newer Pioneer navi in a couple months.

Last thing is..... after this incident my air bag light is on. Can anyone explain to me what happened and how can I get it off? I have to take care of everything by June because I need to get the car inspected. BOOOOO

Above the temperature dial was a passenger airbag light module. Since that is gone that's why the light is on. Once you get a new radio with the airbag light module and plug it in then the light should go off.

Is the orange cord hollow in the center? If so, it could be a vacuum tube that is used to change the output direction of the air. (Defrost, Vent, Floor, etc.) Cutting a vacuum tube is not necessarily a good thing.

What a crappy thing to have happen. This is really just reinforcing my decision to just leave the stock stereo in place. It's not THAT bad and actually has some features / characteristics that I like.

I hope your insurance helps you out and doesn't ding your premium too bad. Did you have the 'aftermarket parts coverage' feature on your insurance? Look at it this way, at least you're safe and your car still drives. Good luck with your restoration!

Thanks everyone! Insurance did pay out cash for me to do whatever I wanted. I ended up using it for some bills that I was behind on after relocating to my new job. Kind of sucks, but no reason to let it ruined my year.

Looks like I'm going to buy the OEM radio that "Super Mario" recommended and try to see if I can fix some of the features. I'm probably going to bring it to a shop afterward if I still can't get the AC working correctly, airbag lights turned off, etc.

If you guys have any questions or recommendations on what to do, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ADD!

that orange cord....is it going towards your glove box?

i think that might be the controller for your ac or defroster or fan speeds. iirc it's got an anchor screw behind your glove box going into the center console which would cuz the thieves to cut it b/c it would give them some resistance to coming out freely.

that should come on your new radio center if it includes the controls for the A/C etc. b/c mine came out just fine when i did my radio swap.

hope this helps...and good luck.

edit* if you buy a radio w/o those 3 cords, bernardi parts does have them they cost like $2-$3 bucks each..again iirc.

also

that funky looking round thing that's left of your AC controller. should be a tab on the back to seperate the male/female parts. go ahead and see if it seperates (look on the audio forums for a diy radio replacement) and it should come off leaving you the male (female) still protruding from your dash ready for your new unit.

it should come off rather easily once you depress the connector.....don't force it off....please.....the poor car has been through so much already.

again, good luck

You guys are so amazing. Thank you so much for all the help. I admit that I haven't been treating my car well ever since..... the incident. I'm going to treat her much better this time around =P Will post pictures in a week or two after I get everything done!

Krakhed, the orange cord DOES come from the glove box.... and them cutting it to get it out easier does make sense. I'm going to do everything you just mentioned. Thanks a lot for the PM, by the way. FF is such a great community!

Sorry, I've had vehicles broken into and things stolen. It sucks. There is a psychological aspect to it. I tend to want to replace/fix everything as quickly as possible.

One thing though, if you are a "Car Noob" I don't know why anyone would recommend you do this yourself. If you are not familiar with this type of work this is exactly the type of thing I would recommend paying someone to do. Yeah, if your good at it, or it's a hobby, then this type of "work" might be easy, or even fun to some people, but if you aren't into it, or don't generally do this type of thing it can be a nightmare and you can really screw things up.

Evaluate your own desire and skills. If you are uneasy and can? Throw money at it, and have it fixed professionally.

Too bad u dont live closer, Id help you out as Ive done the radio swap multiple times and by looking at it can tell you exactly what you need. But from what I can tell... it wont be more than a $25 fix. It is actually really easy if you can do it yourself.

Thank you for the advice. I'm going to get all the parts and try myself anyway. If I can't figure it out within the first 2 hours, I'm going to send it to a shop that I'm familiar with. They said it won't take them more than an hour or two. I just want to try since I'm going to have to swap my radio later on the year when I get another Navi anyway.

Hey JDMChris,

although I don't post a lot I've always been amazed at your car!!!

Anyway, thanks for the reply - I wish I live in CA now too! haha. When you said it won't be more than a $25 fix, what parts are you referring to? Can you list which parts I need to get? This doesn't include the OEM radio that I have to get, right? I might as well just get it since I don't want to ride musicless for the rest of the year.

Also, if you know of any good DIYs please link me! Thanks again for everyone's help, concern, and advice. You guys took a huge amount of stress off my back.
