Exclamation Shift Rod Vibrating a Lot. Is this normal?

Hey guys, I have a 07. I'm curious about a certain sound I'm hearing.

When I'm at 60+ MPH and in 5th gear, my car has this buzzing sound. I hold down the rubber shift boot (Thinking it's rubber on metal vibrating) and it stops, then I realize that the shift boot doesn't actually touch the metal much. So I took it off real quick and did a test drive, same noise. I held the actual shift Rod and the noise stopped. Is it supposed to vibrate that much? and How do I fix it?

Thanks for any help you can give

I don't think mine does that. Do you feel like there is excessive vibration when you have your hand on the knob or have you made changes to the shifter assembly from the way it came when stock?

I don't know what that would be, but I do get vibrations in second gear when putting on or letting off the gas. I've heard that's normal on these cars.

No, I haven't changed the stock shift knob or anything like that. But It's weird because I thought it was the rubber boot rubbing the metal rod, but now it seems like its the shift knob rattling in the track of the gear box. Idk, I mean I haven't had any worse performance because it only happens in 5th gear. Thanks for the help guys!

double check your shift housing tightness to the floor and all linkages...

at that point it might be an engine mount...

Yep, I have that same issue. Buzzing on accel in 5th gear at around 55-60mph. Weird. My solution has been to turn up the music.

Super old thread but on topic: Took my shifter completely out (took both cables off and unbolted plastic cage and all), then re-installed it, and the buzz on 5th gear accel at around 55-65mph is gone. I'm guessing a cable may have been slightly pinched from the factory or wedged a bit such that it was making contact, and simply removing/reinstalling unpinches it. The shifting feels a bit smoother now too, but that could just be my brain playing tricks.

I should note that I did this (removed and reinstalled shifter assembly) at the same time I did this, but I don't see how that would've affected the shifter.

5th gear vibration

There's a subtle plasticy rattle under the shifter in 5th gear at highway speed in my Fit as well. It would go away when I put my hand on the shifter but would always come back. The dealer said they found a manufacturing defect, a plastic burr, and an issue with the height of the cable, which was causing the cable to make contact. They rubbed it down and felt-taped the cable but the noise came back in a few days. They're reinstalling new cabling once parts come in, hopefully that will fix it once and for all. I only have 22k miles on it so this is all under warranty. Peter's of Nashua, NH has been great and not charged me a dime.

Please let us know if the sound comes back after they replace the cabling mountainmachine. As noted in the post above yours, I removed the shifter housing, disconnected the cables, then re-assembled the whole thing and my sound went away. Unfortunately it came back after a few months, which is weird in itself, since why would simply disassembling and reassembling have fixed it?
